Job description

Seattle University has an exciting, dynamic opportunity for a Advancement Communications Director to join our community.

Reporting to the Vice President for Communications with a dotted line reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Director is part of a professional team whose mission is to increase the engagement of the University's multiple stakeholders through effective communications to promote donations and inspire strong relationships with the University.

This position calls for a strategic thinker with expertise managing multifaceted marketing and communication campaigns that support fundraising and alumni relations.

Essential Job Functions

•Develop and implement strategic Advancement communications plans annually.

•Oversee a broad range of communications for a comprehensive fundraising campaign. Develop and execute a campaign communications plan.

•Manage all Advancement communications and marketing efforts from concept through execution and distribution, including print publications, web, email, electronic newsletters and multimedia communications.

•Work closely with directors for the units within Advancement to determine their communications needs, to recommend how best to meet them, to execute strategies and to meet defined goals. Work closely with the Associate Director of Alumni Relations on alumni communications plans and strategies.

•Supervise two full-time staff.

•Coordinate closely and working with designers to conceptualize and implement a cohesive graphic design strategy.

•Collaborate with others to produce content for the website and other electronic communications vehicles, and promoting engagement through social media initiatives.

•Work with the Vice President for Communications to develop systems to assure consistency, clarity, cost efficiency and high quality of Advancement communications.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of six years experience in public relations, alumni relations or development.

Proven ability to assimilate and communicate information online; experience with fundraising communications for a university or other large non-profit; excellent editing and writing skills; ability to work well with diverse audiences; and a strong desire to serve the needs of a fast-paced Communications operation that is moving toward greater incorporation of the full range of print, multimedia and online communications tools to meet strategic goals.

The ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree. Candidates with experience working in higher education and coordinating significant elements of communications for a comprehensive fundraising campaign will be given preference.
