Summary:
The Assistant Director of Day Support provides day to day oversight to an innovative program of therapeutic activities, vocational training, and leisure skills development for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities which meets the best practice standards of the agency and the industry. In collaboration with Director of Day Support provides oversight to the Site Supervisors of Flat Rock Community Services "Adult Advantages" and ensures that all areas of the program are operating with excellence.
The Assistant Director of Day Support is directly responsible for training of day support staff to ensure that necessary and well-trained staff is available to maintain appropriate supervision levels and to maintain the health and safety of all individuals. All required training of this agency and regulatory agencies must be completed in a timely manner.
The Assistant Director of Day Support supports the efforts of the Director of Day Support in enhancing the program. The Assistant Director of Day Support supervises all Direct Support Professional and Site Supervisor staff in the Day Support program.
The Assistant Director of Day Support shall have an on-site presence in the Day Support programs of each site, and shall be directly responsible for the orderly and appropriate operations of the sites.
The Assistant Director of Day Support shall be responsible for creating systems of communication between Day Support staff, Site Supervisors, and Director of Day Support. This may involve the scheduling of team meetings and/or individual meetings with employees. The Assistant Director of Day Support shall work with the Director of Day Support to ensure that Senior Management team and the President/CEO are aware of significant achievements and opportunities for improvement in the Day Support program.
The Assistant Director of Day Support shall assist the Director of Day Support to ensure that the program is current with all regulatory and legal considerations for a day habilitation program in the State of Ohio which is funded through Medicaid funding. It is the responsibility of the Director of Day Support and the Assistant Director of Day Support to make certain that all Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and Behavior Plans of the individuals served are being implemented, documented and followed as written. It is also the responsibility of this employee to ensure that billing for services is completed in a timely manner. All requirements for billing must be met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with Director of Day Support and Site Supervisors plans and implements a program of therapeutic recreational activities as summarized above.
Keeps and submits written reports and records required by licensure and Medicaid regulations, including annual progress reports, annual interest surveys, and any other reports.
Works with QMRPs, Unit Supervisors and other adult day services staff to make certain that adequate planning, scheduling, goal documentation and other administrative concerns are completed to assist in the planning and development of meaningful goals and programs that teach and enhance the vocational and socialization skills of residents.
Utilizes community and specialized programs to meet the needs of residents, such as Special Olympics, camps and individualized therapy programs recommended by the Vice President for Program, and other members of the Interdisciplinary Team. Completes all necessary paperwork for these events.
Ensure residents' rights during Day Support program hours. Ensures that staff are familiar with and prepared to follow the "Major Unusual Incident Policy" (MUI) policy of this agency. Participate with the investigation team of the agency in the investigation of alleged violations of rights and/or major unusual incidents. In addition, seeks to understand residents' desires and preferences and actively advocate for their needs.
As an active Interdisciplinary Team member, attends all required staff meetings, training programs, and in-services.
Marginal Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice-President for Program or the President/CEO.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with specialization in recreation therapy, vocational rehabilitation, special education, or education is preferred. Training and experience in therapeutic recreation and/or physical education are highly desired. Knowledge, skills and experience in the areas of active treatment and behavior intervention for persons with mental retardation/developmental disabilities are required. Must be able to work as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team. Must have current QMRP certification or be able to acquire it within one year. Must be able to perform all the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. As an exempt employee must be willing to complete the work of the position irregardless of hours required.
