(Follow the application link to "Apply for this Position")
People Acting in Community Together (PACT) is seeking a Community Organizer to join our team! Community Organizers with PACT work to engage and develop grassroots leaders based in member congregations and schools. Community Organizers train individual grassroots leaders and local organizing committees to identify priority community concerns, research potential solutions and secure commitments from policy makers to implement these solutions to improve the community.
PACT is a multi-ethnic, inter-faith grassroots organization that empowers everyday people to create a more just community. PACT helps ordinary people win extraordinary victories, not by speaking for them, but by teaching them how to speak up, take action and engage in the public arena for themselves.
PACT does exciting work building relationships and power to change public policies and practices and create a more just community. We work through local organizing committees in 30+ member congregations and schools across San Jose and Santa Clara County. PACT focuses on local community issues, and we also work on state and federal policy with our sister organizations across California and the nation as part of the PICO National Network.
PACT has a diverse staff and large base of volunteer, grassroots community leaders. We are intentional about building a multicultural organization. Much of our organizing work focuses on issues like creating excellent public schools, winning immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship, improving community safety, making health care and transportation affordable and accessible for all people, addressing Islamophobia, and promoting immigrant integration to create a more immigrant-friendly Silicon Valley.
We are an organization that highly values staff development, support and growth. PACT has a strong learning culture, including weekly staff development and coaching, and PICO regional and national trainings. We place a high priority on personal learning, relationship building, and creating a respectful and supportive multi-ethnic, multi-faith, and multilingual organization.
This is a full-time, exempt position, although part-time applicants with strong qualifications may be considered. The job includes regular evening work and some weekend work. There are opportunities for advancement within PACT and PICO. Salary dependent on experience.
