Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano Volunteer Coordinator
Breakthrough is an organization that provides low-income, minority, first-generation students with the support they need to get on the track for college success. While 1 in 2 high-income students graduate from college, only 1 in 7 of their low-income peers can say the same. In fact, low-income students with above average test scores are less likely to graduate college than more affluent students with lower scores. In the Orange County region, only 27% of Latino students graduate with the minimum requirements to apply to a California State University. Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano sets out to change this. Through academically rigorous after-school and summer programs we increase opportunities for low-income students to succeed on the path to college. As we grow and realign to amplify impact, the importance of recruiting effective tutors and community liaisons will be crucial to our success.
