Description

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Senior Research Assistant who will work on projects related to the Agriculture for Nutrition and Health Program within the Markets, Trade and Institutions Division (MTID). This position will support research to enhance nutrition and food safety through market and value chain development. The data management and analysis activities will encompass the links between agriculture, food consumption, food markets, and nutrition at national, sub-national, and household levels.

This is one-year, exempt, fixed term, renewable appointment based at IFPRI headquarters located in Washington, D.C. but might involve travel to the countries in which IFPRI carries out its research.

Essential Duties:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform various tasks involving data collection, data cleaning and maintenance, and data analysis using statistical software and other computer programs.
  • Work intensively on the data of national household surveys, agricultural surveys, and national and regional time series of food consumption and nutrition data for South Asia and African countries.
  • Synthesise results of analysis, preparing tables and visual presentations, as needed.
  • Perform literature review and synthesis.
  • Assist in the preparation of discussion papers, donors' reports, project briefs and briefing notes for dissemination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in economics, agricultural economics, applied statistics, or related field
  • Experience in data cleaning and analysis of large size household or other micro surveys using major statistical software packages such as STATA or SAS.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct literature review, synthesize research findings and draft policy briefs.
  • Familiarity with popular statistic software or mathematic program packages and internet-based data management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in oral and written English.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with colleagues from diverse cultures.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sound knowledge of applied econometrics.
  • Previous experience working on international development issues and/or extensive knowledge of relevant development issues within an academic context.
  • Experience with data visualization or spatial data analysis.
