Director of Research and Evaluation

OneCity Health, a wholly owned subsidiary of the largest municipal hospital and health care system in the country, is seeking a Director of Research and Evaluation within the Office of Population Health. The Office of Population Health has a broad portfolio encompassing primary care transformation, development of innovative care models, chronic disease prevention and management, research and evaluation, and population health analytics.

Position Description

The Office of Population Health is current seeking a Director of Research and Evaluation to build capacity for research and evaluation and manage an innovative research partnership with NYU School of Medicine. The Director of Research and Evaluation reports to the Assistant Vice President of Chronic Diseases and Prevention and works collaboratively across the Office of Population Health and OneCity Health.

What the Director of Research and Evaluation does:

  • Build and maintain relationships with NYC Health + Hospitals researchers, NYU School of Medicine CTSI partners, and other research partners
  • Manage the research partnership between NYC Health + Hospitals and NYU School of Medicine, serving as the key liaison
  • Serve as point person for evaluation efforts within OneCity Health
  • Oversee a population health and health services research agenda reflecting the strategic priorities of NYC Health + Hospitals
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to grow research portfolio, design studies, conduct data analysis, and develop grant proposals based on H+H research priorities
  • Supervise data analyst(s) in conducting analyses to inform grant applications, track metrics including enrollment into studies, and other research-related data needs
  • Provide consultation on extraction, design, and statistical/epidemiologic methods on the use of clinical warehouse, registries, claims, utilization, and other data
  • Participate in a range of NYU CTSI meetings and activities to represent NYC Health + Hospitals
  • Serve on the NYC Health + Hospitals Research Council, representing OneCity Health
  • Oversee the development of IRB applications and Data Use Agreements
  • Write reports, manuscripts and other materials; present at local and national conferences
  • Manage the NYU CTSI budget and seek new sources of funding to expand research efforts at OneCity Health

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  1. A PhD degree in biomedical informatics, statistics, or epidemiology or an equivalent or equally acceptable program, and three (3) years of satisfactory, full-time paid experience in conducting clinical informatics or other healthcare research OR
  2. An advanced degree in biomedical informatics, statistics, epidemiology, or an equivalent or equally acceptable program, and five (5) years of satisfactory, full-time paid experience in conducting clinical informatics or other healthcare research

Department Preferences

  1. Familiarity with clinical warehouse databases or other health care clinical and utilization data including proficiency with SAS, SUDAAN, SQL and other statistical analysis software
  2. Experience with IRB protocols and clinical trials
  3. Experience with health care evaluation research and methods strongly preferred
  4. Supervisory experience and experience managing collaborative projects preferred
  5. Experience growing scientific, academic, or pharmaceutical research and record of research publications
  6. An clinical degree/experience, e.g. RN, MD, is a plus
  7. Collaborative, self-directed, inquisitive, with a can-do mindset
