For almost 200 years, Episcopal Social Services (ESS), accredited by the Council on Accreditation, has helped meet the pressing needs of the vast numbers New York City's disadvantaged. ESS has remained flexible in responding to the changing needs of the disadvantaged with an unchanging mission to help children, families and other individuals become independent and self‐sufficient, and to make the most of their opportunities and potential. Today ESS, through its multi‐site programs and services, meaningfully touches over 5,000 lives every year throughout all of New York City, with an emphasis on the South Bronx and Manhattan. ESS's non-sectarian work focuses on strengthening children, families and adults through programs in foster care and adoption, early childhood education, after‐school initiatives, and group homes for developmentally disabled adults.

ESS is currently seeking an Assistant Teacher in our Early Childhood Education Department, to work Full Time at one of our Early Childhood Day Care Ceneters. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the group teacher to plan and execute a program to provide day care for children, taking into account the educational, social, and developmental and health needs of the children as a group, and as individuals. By providing a vast array of support to the classroom, the Assistant Teacher plays in integral role in the education of each child. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with all activities that take part in the center, as well as off-site trips
  • Attending and participating in regularly scheduled classroom conferences and parent meetings
  • Keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition in addition to removing all hazardous material.
  • Taking responsibility for the classroom in the group teacher's absence


  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education required; Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience working with children
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office
  • First Aid and CPR trainings required and recertified as needed
