The Bronx Defenders – an innovative, progressive, holistic public defender office located in The Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City – seeks individuals with a commitment to social justice to assist with the event planning, fundraising and communications activities of our development office.

ABOUT THE BRONX DEFENDERS: The Bronx Defenders is a multi-service holistic defense organization dedicated to addressing the underlying causes and resulting consequences of involvement with the criminal justice and family court systems. The Bronx Defenders' collaborative approach brings together interdisciplinary work groups combining criminal defense, family defense and civil lawyers, social workers, investigators, and parent and client advocates to address the immediate criminal or family court case, as well as the host of issues driving individuals into those systems. The Bronx Defenders has gained both national and international attention for advancing this model of Holistic Defense. SCOPE OF WORK: The Bronx Defenders seeks an energetic self-starter to assist all projects and activities in our development office. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable event planning, fundraising, and communications experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with planning and executing of our annual Gala and other fundraising events
  • Manage web-based communications, website and social media
  • Draft and edit funding proposals, grant reports and fundraising emails
  • Perform research on prospective funders (governmental, foundations, and corporations)
  • Assist the engaging, cultivating and soliciting individual donors
  • Maintain constituent records information and prospect tracking
  • Provide additional support as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong writing ability
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Interest in and a commitment to social and criminal justice issues
  • Bachelor's Degree
