Job description

Year Up is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Leadership Development Specialist to support and complete a variety of operational and logistical initiatives for Year Up's Human Resources department. Reporting to the Senior Director of Leadership Development, the Specialist will work closely with the HR team, other Year Up employees around the country, and outside consultants.

The ideal candidate comes with solid experience in logistics and project management, and will enthusiastically embrace this role, taking pride in outstanding execution of all tasks and projects, regardless of size or scope. A successful candidate will bring the ability to balance multiple priorities, collaborating effectively while supporting many distinct projects moving forward quickly and accurately. Comfort interfacing with senior leaders while maintaining a flexible, service-oriented attitude will be critical as well. As part of the HR team, the ability to discretely handle confidential information is required.

The Leadership Development Specialist will also interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Emerging Leaders Program (ELP):Year Up's home-grown leadership development program builds leadership capabilities in a year-long program, serving employees from all sites across the country. TheLeadership Development Specialist will successfully coordinate all logistics for this large and complex project, including:

  • Helping ELP stay on schedule/budget by keeping project plan up to date and providing suggestions for increased efficiencies
  • Coordinating efforts for multiple work streams involving a variety of team members including local and national staff on both coasts, and external consultants
  • Scheduling, organizing and facilitating meetings, including creating, preparing and distributing materials, recording action items, and following up with project participants to ensure completion
  • Collecting and organizing program requirements, conducting research, and presenting options and recommendations
  • Handling all preparations for leadership development conferences, held out-of-state,
  • Supporting participants' successful completion of the program, including tracking their progress, acquiring and distributing materials, producing and distributing reports & other documents, and being available to answer questions

Talent Development

  • Coordinate meetings and support preparation and follow-up, often creating and/or distributing materials
  • Manage the administration and reporting of professional development tools such as 360-degree assessments
  • Research and recommend courseware to expand our learning library
  • Analyze and summarize employee data such as talent reviews, successor charts, and professional development plans; suggest possible actions based on conclusions and trends

Site Team/Learning Community Member

  • Serve as an advisor/mentor/volunteer, serving a small number of current students
  • Join and occasionally facilitate group sessions with students
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings

Other

  • Support other projects and needs as they arise from Senior Director of Leadership Development or Senior Director of Strategic Human Resources
  • For all projects, effectively communicate with stakeholders at multiple, often senior, levels within Year Up
  • Coordinate LD team meetings & conference calls and support preparation, agenda, and follow-up
  • Keep track of expenses and enter into financial system
  • May involve some travel (less than 15%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2 years work experience, with logistics experience required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Skilled at meeting deadlines, including on tasks that are dependent on others for completion
  • Excellent project management skills combined with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound judgment, a high degree of professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and make recommendations in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project a strong plus
  • A passion for working with urban young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up
