Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) is looking for an Associate responsible for providing support to its Latin American Country and Regional Program (CRP), specifically to the RRI Regional Program Director, Latin America Program, and the CRP Senior Director.
The Associate will undertake these duties in a systematic and precise manner, handling details carefully without compromising attention to big-picture goals. The Associate will be flexible to work in a highly dynamic environment while ensuring that the work is completed within established deadlines. A collegial and cheerful demeanor is essential.
The Associate will work under the supervision of the Regional Program Director, Latin America Program for two thirds of his/her time and one third with the CRP Senior Director. This position is a full-time position based in Washington, DC, and is classified as non-exempt under the US Fair Labor Standards Act.
Responsibilities
Latin America Program (2/3 of time)
Support the Regional Program Director, Latin America Program as follows:
• Provide general administrative support for the Latin America Program.
• Track projects in Latin America, draft contracts, track and review financial and narrative deliverables, and initiate payments for activities in consultation with the Latin America Regional Director and Facilitators in Central America and South America.
• Prepare background documents for RRI's participatory Planning Process for Latin America (country and regional levels).
• Consolidate budgets and work plans for Latin America and support to the contracting process.
• Assist with correspondence with Partners and Collaborators engaged in regional and country plans and activities.
• Backstop the South America and Central America Facilitators as needed.
• Provide logistics and research support to meetings held at national, regional and global levels throughout the year, including note-taking, visas and travel arrangements, as needed.
• Undertake preliminary and background research into potential projects and opportunities for collaboration in countries and regionally, as requested by the Regional Program Director and Senior Director.
• Assist in the coordination of and writing content for the Latin America portion of RRI's website, RRI quarterly email updates, and monthly meetings reports.
• Update event announcements, regionally-specific news and relevant content to blogs in English and Spanish.
• Edit and translate minor or internal documents to/from English and Spanish
• Contribute to preparation and facilitation efforts for RRI global planning and governance meetings.
• Undertake other tasks as requested by the Regional Program Director and the CRP Senior Director.
RRI Institution-wide Activities including advancing work on Strategic Themes (1/3 of time)
Support the Sr. Director, CRP as follows:
• The Associate will devote approximately 1/3 of work time to the overall institutional needs of RRG, including both contributions to strategic analysis or networking support for one of the four priority themes (Gender, Rights and Climate, Realizing Rights, and Alternate Tenure and Economic Models) and support to institution-wide functions, such as Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Coalition Management and Outreach, including support to the appropriate member of the RRG Management Team as needed. The specific areas for contribution will be determined by the Senior Director based on the Associate's skills, knowledge, and experience and based on the current needs of the organization.
• This may include:
o Literature reviews, background research or preparation of background documents, contributions to and editing of strategic analyses, policy briefs, and support to networking activities around a priority theme
o Drafting of TORs and contracts, tracking deliverables, and payment activities
o Preparation of background documents for Director´s needs
o Support to planning and organizing of staff retreats or team assessments
o Assist with correspondence, note-taking, translation of short documents and simultaneous translation and RRI strategic engagement in global activities
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree required with a focus on Latin American Studies, Environment, Human Rights, or other relevant field.
2. 2-3 years experience working in Latin America or in an international organization strongly preferred.
3. Professional fluency in Spanish and English required, proficiency in Portuguese a plus.
4. Strong analytical and writing skills.
5. Highly organized and detail-oriented, ideally with experience organizing large events. Ability to prioritize competing demands and projects in both short and long term.
6. Excellent communications skills, comfortable liaising with diverse array of collaborators from across the globe.
7. Strong computer skills including advanced Microsoft Word skills, PowerPoint, basic Microsoft Excel, and savvy with social media.
8. Ability to be flexible in a dynamic and fast-paced office environment.
9. Courteous and professional manner, with respect for other cultures and work in teams.
10. A passionate interest in social justice, equity, and human rights and a passion to be part of a team to advance global progress on these issues.
11. Ability to travel overseas, if required.
