About You:

Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer actively supports POST's mission by raising funds for land acquisition and operating funds. This position is responsible for meeting specific annual revenue goals and contributing to the overall achievement of development team revenue goals by identifying, qualifying, cultivating and soliciting current and prospective major gift donors.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful solicitations, demon­strated experience with developing fundraising campaign strategy, and superb project management. In addition, she/he will work closely with other staff and leadership volunteers to develop and implement creative and personalized strategies for high capacity donors.

POST's ten-year strategic plan supports success while continuing its impressive land acquisition and stewardship work, with an eye toward expanding its mission in highly tar­geted areas such as wildlife corridors and regional trail linkag­es. POST also launched its exciting Farmland Futures Initiative, to help ensure working farmland stays in production to support a sustainable local food system. The Major Gifts Officer will play a key role in fundraising to advance these efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as a primary field fundraiser; qualifies, cultivates and solicits from a portfolio of approximately 125 high capacity donors to support annual operating and campaign fundraising goals
  • Conducts and coordinates prospect research; develops and implements highly individualized and specific cultivation and solicitation strategies for major gift prospects and donors; works with other staff and leadership volunteers as appropriate
  • Utilizes a moves management approach and work closely with the Major Gifts team to develop and implement creative, comprehensive, and donor-centric solicitation strategies
  • Provides donor support to President and Senior Director of Development
  • Plans and implements major donor-related events and activities to attract new prospects
  • Collaborates with the Major Gifts team; develops the fundraising components to support newly emerging program initiatives
  • Sets and meets goals with in-person meetings, solicitations, and annual and campaign revenue
  • Creates and presents reports to staff, management, and the Board of Directors
  • Keeps abreast of tax laws pertinent to charitable giving
  • Keeps current on community issues that pertain to POST's land conservation, organizational priorities, and programs and projects

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong commitment to the mission of POST
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in increasingly responsible positions in development and successful major gift work
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and donor databases, preferably eTapestry
  • Ability to engage, develop, deepen and sustain positive relationships with donors
  • Experience working with Board members and volunteers
  • Possesses creative vision and the ability to translate ideas for new initiatives into measurable successes
  • Ability to cooperatively and productively work with internal stakeholders across functional and departmental lines
  • Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills; ability to represent POST's mission and interests to a diverse group of people
  • Highly self-motivated; ability to work independently with minimal initial direction
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to manage concurrent multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience with project budgets and accounting
  • Knowledge of conservation programs preferred
  • Event planning background desired
  • Experience communicating planned gift vehicles desired
