The Center for Urban Community Services, a national leader in the development of effective housing and service initiatives for homeless people, invites applications for a Therapeutic Activity Specialist/Art Instructor position at the Hegeman, a newly constructed 161 unit permanent supportive housing residence located in Brooklyn, for low income tenants, many of whom will have histories of mental illness, homelessness, and substance abuse. The building is expected to receive a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Safety Design) rating and will include a 24/7 attended lobby, a community garden, a computer room, and a fitness room.
This is a 3 hour per week position responsible for the development and facilitation of a weekly art class based on a general arts and crafts curriculum. Candidates must possess the ability to teach actively, pace instruction for varying skill levels, and create a pleasant atmosphere. The instructor must maintain documentation of student participation each week.
