With offices in Harris, Dallas and Hidalgo Counties, the Texas Organizing Project (www.organizetexas.org) works to improve the lives of low to moderate income Texans by building power through community and electoral organizing. Our organizing efforts are anchored by dues paying members and a base of leaders from the community committed to fighting for improved conditions for their families and their communities – quality schools, access to health care, livable housing, safe neighborhoods, living wage jobs and electoral change in their local community and across the state.
Job Description: The Social Media Account Manager is responsible for ensuring increased user engagement managing the organization's various new media platforms and integrating new media strategies into organizing drives and campaigns. The manager will help to launch innovative online campaigns, recruit new online activists, frame the public narrative and mobilize our membership. The account manager will maintain data activity and influence supporter behavior across new media channels, analyzing organizational-initiated conversations and advising appropriate internal staff and teams as needed. Additional duties include developing content for posting on all designated social media outlets, monitoring online competitor presences/perceptions, researching new blogs and channels for relevance/trend identification, reporting "chatter" and other relevant online data, and maintaining posting schedules.
Background: The right candidate will have a degree in journalism, videography, public relations, marketing communications and/or 1+ year of experience in marketing or strategic campaign communications with a labor union or political organization. Strong written communication skills are necessary, with an emphasis on grammar/spelling excellence. Partisan or non-partisan campaign or organizing experience is desirable and a commitment to social and economic justice is required.
