Job description

The Rockefeller University, a leading biomedical research institution, seeks a Manager of Health Information Systems to join the Hospital Information Systems team. Working with Hospital leadership, the successful candidate will continue the transformation of this traditional medical records-based department into an information hub serving the Hospital, the Center for Clinical and Translational Research (CCTS), and its clinical investigators. Will be responsible for participation in the development of computer-based research information management systems with attention to the inclusion of data relevant to statutory, Joint Commission (TJC), and NIH-mandated requirements, integration of this technology into the workflow of the Hospital's clinical departments, and working closely with the Administrative Director to provide hospital-wide metrics required for the administration of the NIH grant. Will provide support to the department of Regulatory Affairs in the collection, management, and reporting of quality assurance data, provide support to the Medical Staff as Secretary of the Medical Records Review Committee, and participate as a key member of the Senior Staff in weekly senior Staff meetings and Interdisciplinary Rounds. Will work with the Hospital CEO to develop and monitor annual department operating budget, provide information as needed to University departments (e.g. Finance, General Counsel, Human Resources), oversee the management of the release of medical information throughout the Center, and oversee the long-range management and archiving of medical charts. Will provide education and oversight of the Hospital and medical staff regarding confidentiality of protected health information in all forms of communication, lead and manage ongoing, real-time chart review and timely communication with staff regarding deficiencies, supervise the HIS department's small staff in the performance of their duties, and comply with personnel requirements of the University and the Hospital (e.g. annual fire-safety training, health clearance), and conduct ongoing and annual employee performance evaluations.

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and educational emphasis in management training or health information management training preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field and 2 years of management experience. Must be proficient in LAN, WAN, VPN, and computer network architecture, backup and disaster recovery, software development methodologies, and PHP and other web languages. Interest in new technology for the management of information necessary. Must have experience with QA, TJC, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements and be a professional who is a leader, flexible, innovative, and a team player. Excellent computer skills and facility with computerized reporting required. RHIA certification or equivalent necessary.
