Description

THIS (pronounced T-H-I-S) for Diplomats, formerly The Hospitality and Information Service (www.thisfordiplomats.org), is an organization of 300 volunteers. It was founded in 1961 to help new diplomats and their families adapt to life in the United States, and today serves more than 4,000 diplomatic families representing 180 foreign missions. THIS offers services and programs that are both personally and professionally useful. These activities include "insider tours" to museums, government institutions and historic landmarks, cultural events, and opportunities to exchange ideas and information with distinguished speakers on topics of worldwide concern. In addition, THIS hosts informal groups in volunteers' homes to promote international friendship and knowledge of other cultures. All the activities of THIS are designed to fulfill our mission:

To promote international understanding and friendship through educational, informational and cultural exchanges with members of the diplomatic community in Washington, DC.

THIS seeks an Executive Administrator to support our mission. This person reports to the President, oversees office operations, and supervises the Program Manager and interns.

Qualifications:

  • Effective office management and staff supervision
  • Excellent human relations skills and experience working with volunteers
  • Computer literacy in database and website management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Financial and budget experience (managing receivables, payables, cash and reimbursements through QuickBooks)
  • Familiarity with fundraising
  • Experience in planning/managing events and meetings

Ideal candidate will have superior organizational and multi-tasking abilities, cultural sensitivity, a strong interest in international relations, and the ability to work well under pressure.
