ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH

POSITION TITLE: Director of Communications

Purpose of the Diocesan Staff:

The purpose of the Diocesan Staff is to serve and encourage the congregations, institutions, organizations and people of the Diocese of Pittsburgh in their mission and ministry of proclaiming and doing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In all things modeling commitment to Jesus as Lord and to each other as a team, the Diocesan Staff is also called to leadership in articulating and enabling a vision of diocesan mission and ministry which, in Christ, builds up the church and evangelizes the unchurched.

Statement of Position Purpose:

To direct and execute the communications effort of the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh.

To Whom Accountable:

The Director of Communications is accountable to the Bishop and meets regularly with the Leadership Team to discuss Communications policy and strategy. It is especially appropriate that the Director anticipate and shape communication of proposed actions and decisions for the Bishop and Leadership Team. The Director of Communications must support both lay and ordained leadership within the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh and respect the distinctiveness of their roles and communication needs. The Director also participates in the common life of the full diocesan staff.

Classification:

Exempt position.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

The Director of Communications serves as the principal advisor and deputy to to the Bishop and Leadership Team in all areas of communications, public and media relations. The Director leads the development of a growing and dynamic communications program.

Specific Responsibilities:

1) Develop and articulate the diocesan vision for communications, establishing priorities and facilitating implementation of a comprehensive approach to 21st century communications in consultation with the Bishop and Leadership Team.

2) Establish and maintain a quality website for the Diocese, consistent with the diocesan vision of Anglican Christians Transforming the World with Jesus Christ – transforming lives, communities and the nations.

3) Serve as Press Officer for the Bishop and Leadership Team. Coordinate efforts with the Anglican Church in North America provincial staff.

4) Produce, edit and publish Trinity newspaper four times a year; send out annual appeal letters to support the publication.

5) Disseminate information to the diocese at large and diocesan leadership bodies through regular communications (e+News, Pittsburgh Advance, etc.) and special communications. Manage and expand social media engagement.

6) Build connections with parish and organizational communicators in the diocese, province, and the church at large.

7) Build photographic team and resources for web, Trinity, etc. Enable production of annual convention video and other video productions as required.

8) Actively develop relationships with the local and national public media (both print, Broadcast, and online) and with national and international church publications.

9) Direct consultation with parishes and districts to address particular communications needs including training, workshops, etc.

10) Provide onsite tech support and troubleshooting for all diocesan staff. Coordinate and manage all tech support needs and regular maintenance. Act as system administrator for office network.

11) Stay current on all developing stories in the Anglican world and the Church at large, informing the Bishop's office as appropriate.

12) Coordinate technology needs for Convention and other diocesan events. This includes online registration.

13) Perform other duties as assigned.

1) All above tasks are carried out.

2) Prayer is ordered, love is unfailing, hospitality is ungrudging, gifts are employed for one another, service is rendered by the strength which God supplies, and in everything God is glorified through Jesus Christ.

Qualifications:

1) Minimum B.A. required.

2) Professional experience in communications.

3) Some theological education preferred.
