GENERAL SUMMARY
The Walk Coordinator will work closely with the Walk Manager to strategically develop, manage, and grow the Walk to End Alzheimer's™ for the Alzheimer's Association, Western and Central Washington State Chapter. She/he will assist with the logistics, recruitment, management, and partnering with volunteers to meet aggressive participant and sponsorship recruitment and fundraising goals. Candidate must be able to exercise excellent judgment, accept responsibility, and give careful attention to details.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Partner with the Walk Manager on every aspect of the planning and implementation of the Walk to End Alzheimer's in multiple designated metropolitan areas including site selection, logistics, volunteer recruitment, sponsorship, and necessary permits and permissions according to municipality
- Leverage National Walk to End Alzheimer's materials, guidelines, event model, event production, assessment tools and online fundraising
- Assist with the development and implementation of the Walk event timeline and benchmarks
- Travel to new Walk locations as necessary for site selection, recruitment, cultivation and day-of-event coordination
- Manage online fundraising websites
- Assist in identification of volunteer leadership positions with high caliber qualified individuals for Walk events
- Manage and provide administrative support to volunteer committees
- Conduct face-to-face meetings with staff and Walk committees by traveling to locations when necessary
- Assist with creating and implementing planning timelines, revenue goals, expense budgets, and participant recruitment strategies
- Execute in partnership with volunteers for the Walk, specifically managing Walk teams and committee recruitment and retention
- Aid with the management of the year-long process of event administration, including but not limited to day-of logistics, data entry, acknowledgments, and materials management
- Assist with the cultivation and solicitation of past and new teams, participants, and sponsors
- Cultivate and steward all Walk participants and donors to help them build a stronger and more meaningful connection to the organization
- Use the Walk as a vehicle to increase donor constituent involvement and multi-channel giving
- Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required during special events, which may include up to 5-6 weekends a year
- Washington state driver's license and proof of automobile insurance
- Dependable car for in-state driving
- Ability to bend, stoop and lift a minimum 20 lbs.
- Travel as needed
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree or related experience
- Minimum one (1) year of event management and fundraising experience; walk or "a-thon" experience preferred
- Ability to train, manage, guide, and motivate volunteers to achieve objectives
- Skills in planning and budgeting
- Articulate in person and on the phone
- Excellent computer skills; must be skilled in or willing to learn Microsoft Office programs and donor software systems
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently with little supervision
- Capable of building and sustaining relationships with a variety of individuals and businesses
- A positive 'can-do' attitude; willingness to "pitch in" to get the job done when required; must be a team player
- Ability to deal with diplomacy and with appropriateness with diverse populations
- Excellent oral and written communications with the ability to present with poise, confidence, and professionalism to diverse committees
- Must develop working knowledge about Alzheimer's disease and its impact on families and caregivers
- Must be able to work under stress and be flexible where there are high expectations for meeting tight deadlines and for producing work that is accurate
