Location: Children's Corner Day Care Center, 565 Livonia Avenue, Brooklyn, New York
Overview: Through a special New York City Council grant allocation for the Children Under Five Mental Health Initiative, University Settlement has received funding to provide evaluations and mental health services to children under the age of five, and their families. The Settlement has a long and distinguished tradition of developing innovative services to meet the needs of its constituents. Since most of our consumers and area residents represent various language and cultural groups, and frequently are hesitant to access mental health services we are committed to devising techniques that will facilitate their acceptance of these services. The role of the Mental Health Therapist is to promote positive social emotional development of young children through development of attachment, initiative and regulation by engaging and supporting families.
The Children's Corner Day Care Center is a publicly funded full day, full year child care center with newly renovated classrooms and wonderful roof-top playground and garden. Located in East New York, Brooklyn, it serves children from 2 -5 years of age. The program aims at providing a nurturing and stimulating environment that will prepare children to enter Kindergarten with the fundamental skills to succeed in school.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate the mental health needs of children under the age of five. Provide parent-child psychotherapy, dyadic, group and family therapy. Conduct workshops and psycho educational groups for interested parents and caregivers. Maintain reports, administrative and clinical records in accordance with OMH/DOHMH standards. Develop and implement case management treatment plans. Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, training seminars and individual supervisory meetings. Complete other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Art Therapy or related field required, NYS License preferred. Must have clinical experience in a mental health setting with an emphasis in the treatment of young children and knowledge of treatment strategies in the areas of child behavior management and family dynamics, trauma and abuse. Possess the ability to work with families in a supportive manner throughout the diagnostic and referral process. Demonstrated experience in service development and implementation. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Capacity to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
Hours: Part time, 14 hours per week
Salary: Mid to high 40s (prorated based on 14 hours)
