Job description

Responsibilities

The Director of Health Policy will work with policymakers, community leaders, and community groups throughout the state to strengthen children's access to quality health care.

  • Analyze current children's health policy issues; prepare fact sheets, briefing papers, and presentations.
  • Develop and implement strategic recommendations for community and state action steps to expand children's health coverage, reduce childhood obesity, and strengthen access to preventive and quality care; build community support for action steps; conduct administrative and legislative advocacy.
  • Provide leadership and technical assistance to promote effective outreach to enroll qualified families in available health coverage.
  • Increase public awareness of children's health issues through the media, public events, publications, and outreach campaigns.
  • Provide leadership and collaboration with health policy efforts around the state; develop working relationships with state and community leaders in health care.
  • Monitor and analyze state and federal legislation and budget issues in children's health care.
  • Network with national colleagues and stay current on trends and issues in children's health policy and practice around the country.
  • Coordinate Kids Health Link coalition of non-profits to provide outreach and enrollment assistance in public health insurance, including supervising contractors and managing grant budgets and reporting.
  • Identify and secure grant funding for children's health advocacy and projects; fulfill grant requirements.

Qualifications

  • Preference of graduate degree and at least two years of relevant experience. At minimum, a Bachelor's degree in related field and five years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent analytic and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of health policy issues such as Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; collaborative work style.
  • Strategic leadership skills.
  • Bilingual speakers preferred.
