TITLE:College & Career Discovery Program Coordinator (Part Time)
DEPARTMENT:Youth and Community Development Services
REPORTS TO:Deputy Director of Youth & Community Development
SALARY:$20/hr, 20 hours a week, sick and vacation hours
DATE:Jan 2014-contingent on funding
JOB SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Youth & Community Development, the part time College & Career Discovery Program Coordinator will plan, implement, coordinate and supervise the college advisers of LESP HS, Marta Valle HS, & UNHS. In addition, be responsible for a cohort of 30 recent graduates who are in their freshman year the CUNY system to ensure their success with transitioning & retention in college
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Significant expertise and background in education, youth development, and nonprofit management, including Bachelor's degree in these or related fields and/or relevant field experience preferred
·BA Degree required andat least 3 years of youth development experience required
·Strong supervisory skills required
·Experience working with youth based programs
·Ability to provide leadership and coordinate the work of a team of part time college advisers
·Demonstrate the ability and experience in areas such team building, program development/ management, problem solving
·Good interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively balance and integrate task-oriented and process-oriented responsibilities
·Demonstrate the ability to provide continuous follow-up with tasks
·Excellent written & verbal communication
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Assists in the overall management and operations of the CCDP
·Responsible for the caseload of cohort of 30 freshman (CUNY enrolled) and their successful completion of their first year; create orientation and support groups for the caseload. Connect students to resources at the CUNY system and CUNY faculties. Provide case managing as needed; act as a resource to connect students with resources for success. Research scholarship opportunities and provide support for any unanticipated hurdles student may face.
·Meet with principals and school administrations, establish partnerships with local colleges
·Conducts periodic assessments and evaluations and assists in curricula and programmatic refinements.
·Coordinate schedules, trips, annual college fair
·Hire and supervise an SAT instructor to provide SAT prep/regents prep courses
