Title: Education Program Coordinator

Description:

Colonias Development Council is looking for a full time Education Program Coordinator. The Education Coordinator will be in charge of overseeing, organizing, tracking and developing curriculum for CDC's citizenship and ESL education program. The program coordinator will recruit, train and supervise citizenship class teachers as well as teach at least one class of their own. Classes will be held in several different colonias in the region. Responsibilities include: coordination of class logistics; promotion, recruitment, and development of course curriculum; and education based community development within site colonias. The Education Program Coordinator will work with CDC immigration staff to develop community informational events and be present at colonia fairs. The applicant must be available to work evenings and occasional weekends to accommodate client needs. In addition, the Education Coordinator will train and supervise between eight and 12 part-time volunteer teachers from the community as well as teacher aides from the university.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Education, ESL or History,
  • Certified teacher or Masters in Education, history, or ESL preferred
  • 3+ years education based experience
  • Experience in curriculum development

Skills: Computer Proficiency (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and social media), highly organized, flexible, self-motivated, some understanding of border region and colonias

Interests: Education, history, community organizing, economic development, social justice, Immigration issues, second language acquisition

Spanish Language Requirement: Moderate to high fluency required

Benefits: Salary based on experience and qualifications

  • $26,000 – 32,000, negotiable
