School Description: PAVE Academy Charter School prepares Kindergarten - 8th grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a school community built on the school's core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance and Excellent character. The school opened in August 2008 with approximately 88 Kindergarten and 1st grade students and will add an additional grade each year until it serves nearly 450 students in Kindergarten - 8th grade. In 2012 - 2013, PAVE serves 300 students in Kindergarten - 5th grade. In the winter of 2013, PAVE will submit an application to open a second school in Fall 2014.
Position Summary: PAVE Academy Charter School seeks a Director of Operations in Residence (DOR) to help manage the operations of PAVE in Red Hook for the 2013-2014 school year. The DOR will simultaneously be in training to act as a likely Founding Director of Operations for PAVE's second school in the 2014-2015 school year. The DOR will work as the first responder to staff operations requests, including but not limited to those involving technology, facilities, and general operations assistance. The DOR will be an important member of the Operations Team and is tasked with ensuring that school operations are running efficiently, so that instructional staff can focus on instruction without operational obstacles. In addition, the DOR manages weekly and monthly financial systems, including but not limited to: accounting, cutting checks, making deposits, monitoring financial binders, preparing payroll, monitoring controls and expenses, and reporting. Towards the end of the 2013-2014 school year, the DOR will be work with Network Leadership to prepare for the second school opening in August of 2014, including facility acquisition and preparation, technology preparation, hiring, and overall operational planning.
Responsibilities
• Embody, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of PAVE
• Act as the first responder to technology requests, including issues involving: computers, SMART Boards, internet, mobile devices, databases, copy machines, printers, the network and server, software installation, phone systems, and other trouble shooting related to technology
• Act as the first responder to facilities requests, including but not limited to immediate facilities repairs and maintenance, putting together furniture, and outfitting rooms with all the necessary equipment needed for instruction
• Work with the school's Director of Operations, Office Manager and any additional operations support, as needed
• Work with PAVE's property management company
• Manage the second school's student lottery and application/waitlist database
• Document and work with others to document school systems and procedures in Wiki
• Work with the school's operations and instructional team to organize resources
• Set up and manage or work with vendors to set up and manage all instructional, student, and operational software and information systems.
• Create spreadsheets, as needed, that help track and analyze student assessment results
• Assist in general office management, as the second responder to all office management needs • Assist in answering phones and greeting visitors, as the second responder to all phones and visitors
• Carry boxes and act as the first responder for deliveries that require heavy lifting
• Substituting for various duties when staff is short, including but not limited to breakfast, lunch, recess, dismissal, and bus supervision
• Implement the day to day accounting processes of the school according to GAAP (accounts payable and receivable, cash receipts and disbursements), including cutting checks each week, making bank deposits, and ensuring that purchasing controls are in place and remain strong
• Maintain and oversee bookkeeping records for debit card, ACH, and transfer transactions utilizing software applications (Quickbooks)
• Enroll the school in ACH and automatic payment plans as it is possible
• Monitor Bank Statements, Debit Card binder, ACH binder, and Check binder quality once per month, with a particular focus on ensuring all transactions have been approved and are credible
• Assist in generating monthly financial reports for the board
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Operations

Compensation
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Substantial merit bonuses will be awarded each year based on student academic performance and other metrics established by the Executive Director. In addition to financial compensation, all PAVE staff members are equipped with a laptop computer, email, necessary supplies, and extensive professional development.
