PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the V.P. of Finance & Administration, the Controller is responsible for all aspects of financial record keeping. The Controller supervises the finance department which is responsible for maintaining the computerized general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, systems implementation for operational improvements using technology, preparing financial statements and analyses for the Board Finance Committee and various government and private funding sources, monitoring cash requirements and maintaining adequate cash flow including grants management, timely completion of the independent annual audit and IRS 990 return.

  • General Ledger - Supervision, preparation, and review of all transactions/journal entries within GAAP guidelines, funding source regulations and budgetary constraints. Ensure proper maintenance of general ledger.
  • Financial Statements - Prepare financial reports for internal use and for submission to funding sources. Maintain financial statements and forward to Executive Director and Finance Committee Board Members for review.
  • Accounts Receivable and Grants Management - Oversee grants receivable and management in order to ensure timely and accurate receivables reporting. Also, develop a new receivables tracking system to streamline tracking and reporting of grants receivables utilizing technology and systems improvements.
  • Bank Reconciliations - Responsible for completing monthly bank account reconciliations and daily monitoring of cash accounts.
  • Budgeting - Forecast and prepare annual budgets. Analyze budgetary variances and review all unplanned expenditures. Review accounts to assure that budget guidelines and policies are followed.
  • Cash Flow Forecasting - Assist VP Finance in preparing cash flow reporting and analysis.
  • Audit/A-133 Single Audit/990 - Supervise preparation of audit schedules. Review and approve audit adjustments. Review and approve audited financial statements and footnotes. Assist in researching and selecting Auditor as needed by the Audit Committee. Coordinate and assist internal and external auditors regarding all audits and related reporting performed at InnVision Shelter Network.
  • Payroll Allocations - Related duties include preparing the general ledger payroll journal entries and reconciliation of payroll expenses to funding source budgets and preparing adjusting journal entries.
  • Staff Supervision - Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule staff. Provide ongoing leadership, guidance, and supervision regarding finance/ accounting and human resource issues.
  • Other Duties - Participate in Leadership Team meetings, Board Finance & Personnel Committee meetings, and Board of Directors meetings as requested. Participate in all staff meetings, program open houses, and other agency-wide meetings and events. Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned by the V.P. of Finance & Administration and Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 7 + years of hands-on experience supervising all aspects of financial record keeping for a $16+ million non-profit.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and organizational skills required.
  • Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance multiple projects.
  • Experience in hiring, training, evaluating and supervising accounting and/or finance department staff.
  • Familiar with instituting accounting and efficiency improvements.
