The Shuraako project is seeking to hire an Investor Engagement Manager. The primary objective for this position is to connect investments to promising businesses and business models which create jobs in Somalia. He/she will be responsible for meeting with, and pitching to, investors about investment opportunities in Somalia. He/she will be responsible for mapping and conducting research on relevant investors (including private individuals, high net worth individuals, venture capital, private equity, regional African investment funds), and working with them to place investments in Somalia.
Essential Job Duties
- Map and identify Somali and non-Somali investors who show interest in investing in Somalia.
- Meet with these investors to pitch investing into Shuraako-identified businesses and business models in Somalia.
- Advise Shuraako and other related staff on investing practices and developments in Somalia and East Africa.
- Represent Shuraako at external meetings, conferences, phone calls etc, related to investing in Somalia.
- Work closely with Shuraako team to develop a 'portfolio' of business opportunities for investment in Somalia.
- Provide advice and technical assistance to third party investors unfamiliar with the culture, challenges, and opportunities of investing in Somalia
- Travel to Somalia (South Central, Puntland, Somaliland) required
- International travel to meet with global investors required.
- Collect and analyze data related to investment and job creation in Somalia.
- Participate in Shuraako and/or OEF internal meetings as required
- Brief Shuraako team and OEF Founder/Chairman on investing opportunities and contacts in Somalia
- Perform other related activities as required in order to ensure Shuraako program success.
- Assist in guiding the overall program strategy for Shuraako.
- Assist with monitoring Shuraako-supported initiatives

Required Education and Skills
- Master's degree in Investment, Finance, Business, or other related field.
- Demonstrated experience working in investment in East Africa required. Experience in investment in Somalia preferred.
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in the fields of investment, business, the financial sector, or African economic development.
- Excellent and demonstrated abilities in investment pitching, sales, or fundraising.
- Proven track record of successfully working on investments in Africa
- Excellent public speaking, networking, outreach, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Somali strongly preferred. Some skills in Arabic are a plus.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
Shuraako was launched in July 2012. The program's objective is to identify businesses and other initiatives that create jobs in Somalia, and connect them to private and non-profit investment. Shuraako also seeks to be a catalyst for creating jobs in Somalia through serving as a hub of information on Somali business, investment, and markets.
