Educator Job Description
Fahari Academy Charter School is expanding its instructional team for the 2011-2012 school year. Fahari Academy's mission is to educate, support, challenge and train students for success in college. In pursuit of our mission, every educator at Fahari Academy is charged with the following responsibilities: • Create a challenging and engaging learning environment and experience for Fahari students • Impart subject matter expertise onto students through carefully structured lesson plans • Collect, report and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data about students and refine lessons according to student ability and student goals • Use varied instructional methodology from direct instruction to inquiry-based Socratic questioning • Lead Saturday remediation for struggling students • Develop and maintain strong relationships with a 10-12 member advisory group of students through a structured advisory curriculum • Manage the academic careers and social development of advisory members • Maintain frequent proactive parent contact and maintain a weekly parent contact log of student advisees • Advocate for the needs of the students during weekly subject area, cross-curricular and whole school team meetings • Gather, analyze and interpret data in the moment for the benefit of student learning • Research best practices in education and apply them to professional teaching practice • Lead a remediation group twice a week • Participate fully in school culture and implement system of rewards and consequences created by the school • Work well collaboratively and independently • Perform all other duties as assigned by school leadership
Qualifications and Characteristics • Understanding and belief in the mission of the school • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, organization, communication and planning skills • Exceptional ability to develop and maintain productive, collaborative relationships • Ability to create, monitor and maintain systems that enhance classroom efficiency • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to accommodate frequent changes while maintaining goal orientation • Ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed • Bachelor's Degree and advanced degree in education • NYS certification preferred
