SUMMARY
We are seeking a creative and inspirational leader to help two thriving and progressive churches develop a combined youth ministry that brings our youth and supporting adults to the "next level" of inner faith development, community involvement, and spiritual activism. This is a unique opportunity for a person of faith to serve a new community that is growing out of already existing and vibrant teen groups at two distinct congregations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
The Director of Youth Ministry will develop and implement a cooperative youth ministry between Christ Congregational Church – United Church of Christ, Silver Spring, MD (CCC) and Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, Takoma Park, MD (TPPC).
Ordained and lay persons will be considered for this "non-called" position.
This is a 30-hour position with a salary of up to $30,000 depending on experience and health, vacation, study leave, holiday, and sick/family leave benefits.

SALARY, BENEFITS and LEAVE
30 Hour Position (3/4 time salaried)
Salary: $25,000 - $30,000. UCC Benefits Plan (optional PCUSA Benefits for qualified candidates). Continuing Education and Travel Allowances available.
Vacation: 4 weeks annually, with potential for more vacation with tenure.
Study Leave/Spiritual Formation: 1 week, as approved by supervisors.
Comp Time: Available in consultation with supervisors.
Paid Holidays: Per the hiring body's Human Resources Manual.
Sick Leave, Bereavement Leave, Family Leave: Per the hiring body's Human Resources Manual.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the youth (Middle and High School), their families and the congregational leadership to develop a clear and well-articulated vision for shared youth ministry.
Plan and lead regular youth group meetings or activities for High School and Middle School youth, with particular attention to worship, justice ministries and direct service.
Regularly lead the youth in spiritual practices, including exploring their own faith and caring for one another.
Help recruit for and administer the "Our Whole Lives" curriculum and be available as a resource for teacher teams when the classes are offered.
Help coordinate youth participation in morning worship in each congregation.
Recruit and supervise adults who work with youth.
Explore, initiate and lead one retreat and one mission trip per age group per year.
Plan and implement a cooperative confirmation retreat, paying attention to the common theological and biblical underpinnings that the congregations hold common.
Advocate for and involve youth with the total life of the congregations.
Attend at least three Sunday morning worship services per month, as agreed upon by congregations.
Participate in youth ministry professional development as funding permits.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
At least two years' experience working with teens
Background in the Reformed, Lutheran (ELCA) or Anabaptist Protestant traditions
Demonstrated ability to motivate, educate and develop young people in spiritual matters
Knowledge of youth development and best practices of youth ministry
Sense of humor and candor
Innovation, flexibility, creativity
Integrity and faith
Ability to connect youth with their faith, church, and larger community
Ability to cultivate adults' ministry with youth
Training in "family systems" preferred
Ability to understand and serve special needs youth
SUPERVISOIN
The youth leader will meet regularly with the senior pastors to review programs and share concerns.
The youth leader will have an annual review as coordinated by the hiring body. Members of both churches will participate in the review process.
