Description

The Red Hook Community Justice Center, a demonstration project of the Center for Court Innovation, is hiring a Toxicology Technician/Case Manager for its on-site Clinic. The Center for Court Innovation, a project of the Fund for the City of New York, is a unique public-private partnership that promotes new thinking about how courts and criminal justice agencies can aid victims, change the behavior of offenders, and strengthen communities. The Red Hook Community Justice Center is the nation's first multi-jurisdictional community court, hearing criminal, housing and family matters under one roof with a single judge. The Justice Center's mission is to solve community problems: strengthening families, assisting at-risk youth, preventing evictions, addressing crime when it occurs and working to prevent crime before it takes place. Criminal offenders are sentenced to community restitution and linked to a full range of on-site and community-based social services, including drug treatment, mental health services, family mediation, GED, and domestic violence intervention.

Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Toxicology Technician/Case Manager is primarily responsible for conducting supervised drug testing for male defendants in criminal court and male respondents in family court. The Toxicology Technician/Case Manager will also carry a caseload and provide case management services to criminal court defendants.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducting supervised drug testing for male defendants in criminal court and male respondents in family court, as well as male participants in other programs as needed;
  • Participating in efforts to improve drug testing protocols and documentation;
  • Providing staff training on testing protocols and documentation;
  • Participating in on- and off-site training for toxicology technicians;
  • Carrying a caseload and providing case management services to criminal court defendants;
  • Maintaining appropriate client information in electronic database and hard files;
  • Providing written treatment updates;
  • Making appropriate referrals;
  • Facilitating coordinated service delivery from on-site agencies and community-based agencies;
  • Managing and monitoring compliance with treatment mandates;
  • Participating in a weekly interdisciplinary treatment meeting; and
  • Facilitating a range of on-site psycho-educational groups.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required, and relevant professional experience preferred.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally-competent manner. Candidates must also be comfortable working with adolescents and adults. Experience with drug/alcohol treatment and Spanish fluency strongly preferred.
  • This position requires the supervised drug testing of male program participants. Therefore, only male applicants can be considered for this position.
