NTEN seeks an experienced full charge bookkeeper with nonprofit experience, also a natural and well honed talent for managing details and problem solving. This position offers the right individual the opportunity to serve in a key role on a dynamic team that truly loves their work, is highly dependable, intentional, and also playful. The part-time position is based in downtown Portland, Oregon.

The Accounting & Operations Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the on-going success and growth of NTEN by providing accounting and office support to the CFO/COO. The core responsibilities for this position are accounting entry including A/R, A/P and GL, financial statement preparation and review, database support, some office support and special projects.

Responsibilities: Accounting/Financial

  • Prepare and process A/P including cutting checks, W-9's and 1099 reporting
  • Prepare and process A/R including posting payments and making bank deposits
  • Prepare and enter JEs into QuickBooks Online
  • Input budget into QuickBooks Online
  • Review and follow up on past-due invoices (Aging Reporting)
  • Reconcile: Bank statements, AMEX card statements, Pass through grants, Restricted grant revenue, Asset and Liability GL accounts
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements
  • Prepare and analyze information/data as requested by CFO/COO

Office Management/Operation Support

  • Maintain accounting and contracts filing system
  • Order supplies and manage supply room
  • Process vendor and service contracts and renewals

Special Projects (current & potential projects)

  • Support data analysis and creation of new KPI dashboard
  • Set up new finance and contracts filing system
  • Support renaming/organizing document retention project in Google Docs
  • Support Operations Procedures Documentation project
  • Assemble and mail semi-annual board packets

Candidate Profile: The candidate we seek will bring valuable accounting experience to NTEN. The successful candidate will have five plus years of experience in full charge bookkeeping or accounting roles, experience working with nonprofit accounting, 'expert' level experience with QuickBooks, and a well honed talent for managing details while being part of a fast-paced engaging environment. S/he will be able to focus on timely and accurate completion of recurring tasks and varying projects while providing ideas and solutions to NTEN's growing infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be highly dependable and adaptive, have uniquely strong interpersonal skills, and a predisposition for positively representing NTEN's mission and culture.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years related full charge bookkeeping/accounting work experience, including 2+ years in the nonprofit sector required
  • 3+ years experience using QuickBooks required
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Familiarity with non-integrated systems desired
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Certificate in Accounting desired
  • Technology savvy
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Process and detail oriented, yet flexible and comfortable with change
  • Proven record of integrity and earned trust
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated across a variety of relationship types and situations

This position is part time at 10-12 hours per week, increasing to 15-20 hours per week during NTEN's peak busy season (January through mid-April). As a part time position it does not include benefits. There is potential in the new budget year (beginning July 1) for the position expanding in depth and breadth of responsibilities and becoming full-time with benefits for the right candidate. The position reports to the CFO/COO.
