Job description

Make the difference! Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is seeking a Grant Specialist to help move forward new cures and treatments for childhood cancer. This detail oriented role is integral in disseminating funds raised through the hard work and dedicated of ALSF team members.

As the steward of the grant process, you will propel forward new, and existing, grant cycles to ensure the best and most promising childhood cancer research is funded. This role will be part of the Program and Resources Team which includes a Family Resource Coordinator, Program Director, and Grant Specialist.

Working closely with the other Grant Specialist this person will be responsible for the administration of medical and nursing research grants, ensuring the website is up to date, grant guidelines are clear, grant opportunities are promoted and active grants remain in good standing. Additionally, this person is responsible for organizing grant reviews, collecting progress and final reports and corresponding with applicants.


  • Team Player and independent worker: willing and able to help other departments as well as the team; take a proactive approach to meeting deadlines and streamlining processes; willing and able to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Big and small picture: understand Foundation's structure, history and grant program; facilitate the process of reviewing grant applications; maintain grant management software (MicroEdge – Gifts, IGAM, ReviewerConnect); assure grants meet legal, auditing and Foundation requirements; schedule award payments
  • External and internal communication: build an on-going relationship with grantees, applicants and review boards; update staff on program initiatives, approved grants and milestones; answer inquiries (calls or emails) about grant program; represent Foundation at national conferences
  • Professional growth: participate in training and professional development; undertake special projects as assigned to become a well rounded member of Team Alex

Required Competences and Skills

  • Minimum of three years of work experience in detail oriented environment a must
  • Concrete experience working with and understanding the intricacies of cyclical processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook; GIFTs experience a plus
  • Analytical and reporting skills
  • Communicate well and has strong writing skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Attention to details and deadlines
  • Ability to analyze current workflow and implement effective processes and procedures
  • Some knowledge in science a plus

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from a young cancer patient's lemonade stand and determination to help other children battling cancer. Alexandra "Alex" Scott asked for help to reach her goal of raising $1 million to help kids with cancer before she passed away in 2004. Her community and the nation responded and today the Foundation has raised over $80 million in the fight against childhood cancer.
