Mercy Corps Northwest (MCNW) is the assumed business name for the 501(c) 3 non-profit, Mercy Enterprise Corporation. The organization was established in 1998 as a program of Mercy Corps, the Portland-based international relief and development agency. MCNW is a Community Development Financial Institution that assists all low-income populations, including minorities, women, refugees, immigrants and prisoners, previously incarcerated in Oregon and Washington states, by increasing their economic self-sufficiency and community integration through self-employment. GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Resource Development Officer develops and enhances relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, organizations, and others based in Oregon and Washington. S/he will create and execute activities to heighten awareness of Mercy Corps Northwest, develop innovative ways to link target donor/prospects with the organization, and secure funds from these donors/prospects.

The Resource Development Officer is responsible for three main areas: 1) Crafting and executing a comprehensive resource development strategy for the organization, 2) Raising funds, cultivating and maintaining relationships with both individual and corporate donors, and 3) Supporting program staff in identifying and pursuing opportunities for specific program funding from foundations, governmental or private sources.

This position requires expertise in direct response, online, community, major gift and corporate giving and will focus on individuals, corporations, foundations, organizations and with some work in grant proposal development. This position requires an individual who is deeply invested in Mercy Corps Northwest's mission and dedicated to supporting the regional teams that are improving the lives of people and the health of communities in Oregon and Washington. The Mercy Corps Northwest Resource Development Officer has an ideal opportunity to grow the organization's capacity and will play a leadership role in an effort to significantly grow private fundraising in Oregon and Washington states.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Craft and execute a comprehensive resource development strategy for MCNW

Build relationships with and secure funds from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations
Manage a portfolio of donors, communicate with them, upgrade them and nurture the relationship
Collaborate with program teams and leadership in matching key program needs with the interests and passions of new and existing donors

Responsible for identifying new corporate donor prospects to develop a portfolio of strategic corporate donors
Manage all aspects of donor relationships and ensure donor satisfaction with timely stewardship and cultivation with the goal of increase the probability of ongoing, long-term support
Coordinate with Mercy Corps (international) Resource Development team to ensure that MCNW donor relationships are successful and coordinated with over-arching fundraising systems and efforts.
Seek effective ways to highlight Mercy Corps Northwest's corporate partnerships in the media and other venues
Coordinate with program staff to prepare concept papers, proposals and reports for donors
Conduct research to identify and cultivate new corporate funding partnerships
Be responsible for ensuring that proposals conform to donor guidelines and include the necessary supporting documentation including project budgets, agency budgets and audited financials, board information, annual reports etc.
Maintain effective and positive communications with colleagues in Program and Finance in relation to the management of privately funded programming
Ensure that submitted proposals, donations and awards are documented and organized for future reference and use
Manage donor database (Raiser's Edge) and provide timely fundraising reports to leadership

ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to Executive Director

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

A college degree isrequired.
Three to five years of experience in development with a strong practicing relationship development in private, corporate and foundation sectors.
Proven ability to build a solid prospecting pipeline.
Understanding of the corporate decision making process.
Demonstrated success in securing major gifts.
Exceptional oral communication skills and a high degree of comfort in making presentations to a variety of constituent groups.
Outstanding people and excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
Ability to set and meet short- and long-term goals.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and process, ability to record and track progress through Raiser's Edge database.
Sound knowledge of computer programs, Microsoft Office and Raisers Edge software.

Ability to develop personal relationships with a variety of people in a variety of contexts.
Ability to secure and increase contributions from small and major donors and prospects.
Three to five years of experience with fundraising, including managing donor relationships, prospect research and proposal writing for grants above $50,000.

Ability to work independently and to coordinate and collaborate with MCNW staff and Mercy Corps Resource Development team.

The successful candidate will have an ability to develop personal relationships with a variety of people in a variety of contexts as well as be able to secure and increase contributions from donors and prospects as well as retain donors. The job requires a strong leader that can develop new ideas and build consensus with a variety of stakeholders. It will be critical to represent both program content and the emotional heart of MCNW to external audiences, and to add constructively to a sense of team and shared goals.
