Description

Start Date: May 2013 or when filled

Organization Overview:

Peer Health Exchange ("PHE"), is a national non-profit organization that gives teenagers the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a comprehensive health curriculum in public high schools that lack health education. Since our founding in 2003, we have trained more than 5,000 college student volunteers to deliver effective health education to over 50,000 public high school students in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Washington D.C. and the San Francisco Bay Area. We are in the midst of our 2011-2015 strategic plan, which has three major priorities: deepening impact, investing in more robust program evaluation, and developing and testing additional methods for impact, all while serving 120,000 teens over the next four years. To achieve these priorities, we expect to grow from a staff of 45 and a budget of $8MM today to a staff of over 100 and a budget of $14MM by 2015.

Position Overview:

PHE seeks an entrepreneurial, hands-on Director of Finance and Administration ("DoFA") to lead financial and administrative operations in service of our mission and strategic plan. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual committed to building, sustaining and leading the core financial infrastructure of a dynamic, growing, mission-driven organization. The ideal candidate will bring a capacity for systems-level thinking, a desire to work in a fast-paced environment of a growing organization, experience in public and/or non-profit finance, a passion for PHE's mission, and a commitment to managing and developing others to their full potential.

The DoFA will report to the Vice President of Strategy, Finance and Operations ("VP SFO"), manage members of the finance/accounting teams, and will work with that team to build highly effective and efficient financial operations for PHE as we grow. This position will also work closely with members of the External Affairs, National and Local Program teams and senior PHE leadership. The DoFA will also oversee the risk management and compliance needs of the organization and may be positioned to lead broader operations functions in the future. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the day-to-day head of the finance, accounting and risk management/compliance functions at PHE

• Manage, develop, and motivate the PHE finance team to achieve ambitious outcomes in service of PHE's mission and strategic plan priorities

• Establish and maintain high standards of team performance by developing clear goals and managing staff to reach those goals

• Manage and continually refine the organization's national financial system to ensure maximum productivity and scaffold organizational growth

• Develop and oversee the continuous improvement of accounting and financial processes

• Conceptualize and build financial models to address business questions and needs

• Oversee and lead PHE's annual budget planning and development process in collaboration with the VP SFO and senior PHE leadership, aligning budgets and forecasts with organizational goals

• Work with City Executive Directors and national office team leaders to use and manage their budgets effectively; also train all PHE staff on budgets as appropriate

• Collaborate regularly with the External Affairs team to track revenue and prepare timely, accurate, and informative financial reports and analyses for PHE staff, Board and funders

• Develop, implement, and manage financial policies and procedures that meet high standards of accountability and efficiency across the organization, including training and supporting PHE staff to ensure compliance

• Oversee the annual audit process, engaging stakeholder support as necessary to ensure "clean" audit results

• Oversee cash management, including developing policies aligned with the size and scale of operations and managing cash flow on a short- and long-term horizon through regular projections reports

• Support the VP SFO in engaging the board's finance and audit committees to discuss and advance key finance objectives

• Develop, implement and manage risk management and compliance operations including implementing financial, organizational and volunteer risk management initiatives and ensuring adherence with local, state and federal laws and regulations

Required Qualifications:
