The National Hemophilia Foundation's (NHF) policy staff works on solving real-world problems affecting people with bleeding disorders, including identifying how various health systems (both public and private) function and determining where and how change has to occur. Our policy research and analysis encompasses issues that affect the population at large including access to care, blood and product safety, utilization and adherence to therapies, and health care reform.
Summary:
We are looking for someone to assist in the development and support of NHF's public policy objectives. This is a NATIONAL search, open to telecommuting for the right individual.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with the Public Policy Director and other members of the public policy team to develop an on-going public policy agenda and strategy for priority states.
- Create and conduct effective presentations designed to educate consumers, chapters and other stakeholders how to advocate for NHF's public policy agenda and work to train stakeholders for grassroots advocacy.
- Assist with the development and compilation of materials (leave behinds, fact sheets, etc) for chapters requesting assistance with lobby day events
- Assist Director of Public Policy with the compilation of a sufficient body of "actionable" evidence for policymakers.
- Monitor and track activities at the state and local government, specifically legislation and policy relevant to NHF's mission.
- Develop and manage strategic communications for public policy to include legislative alerts, calls to action and issue briefs.
- Oversee and update internal databases and distribution lists.( e.g., Washington Days participants, database of individuals participating in NHF campaigns.)
- Prepare periodic and annual summary reports of the public policy activity to NHF's senior leadership.
- Assist in all aspects of Washington Days planning, including registration and organizing other logistics for the event. (Washington Days is NHF's premiere lobbying event held each year in Washington, DC.).
- Other responsibilities of a similar capacity as assigned.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, including maturity, an ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively with consumers, advocates and other outside stakeholders (including government officials).
- Efficient, organized work style and an ability to prioritize quickly and confidently, and manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to understand the long-term impact of policy decisions and strategies.
- A college degree (required); a graduate degree in a related field such as public policy, public administration, social work, business administration or law (preferred).
- Proficient in MS Office, internet research and database information systems.
- Experience with e-advocacy systems preferred.
- Knowledge of hemophilia and/or bleeding disorders a plus but not required.
Education/Experience:
- A degree from an accredited college or university; graduate degree in public policy, administration, social work, or business administration preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in public policy analysis, development and implementation.
- Knowledge of the public and private payer arenas is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
The Policy Analyst will be expected to travel out-of-state several times throughout year to attend meetings, conferences, and training events on behalf of NHF.
