Jewish Family Service is seeking a seasoned fundraising professional to plan and execute all high-level individual donor fundraising efforts for JFSLA. S/he will focus on identifying and securing new financial resources in addition to managing current donors at the $100,000 + donor level.
The position involves researching, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects/donors and supporting key staff (CEO and COO) to interface effectively with donors and prospects. The Senior Development Officer will also help create and implement a strategic plan for a Planned Giving program at JFSLA. The SDO will be responsible, along with the Chief Development Officer, for expanding the current long range strategic development plan and will assist in the growth of the annual campaign and the Resource Development Department.
This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.
Primary responsibilities include:
- In partnership with Executive staff and key lay leadership, maintain an active schedule of face-to-face meetings with donors and prospects who are believed capable of making six-figure commitments based on giving patterns and prospect research.
- Track donor/prospect moves in Raiser's Edge.
- Assist the CDO with assigned major gift prospects and donors for the comprehensive campaign (capital/endowment), annual donors of $250,000+ and planned giving donors.
- Partner with Communications Departmentto ensure the preparation of fundraising materials such as letters and brochures, and ensure that all promotional materials meet the requirements of each major donor.
- Directly supervise the SOVA Campaign Manager in order to achieve the JFS/SOVA annual development goal of $1.5 million.
- Directly supervise the Annual Campaign Manager.
- In partnership with the CDO, plan and implement the Annual Tribute Dinner with an income goal of $900,000+.
- Participate in staff meetings, board meetings and other organizational development activities as required.
- Have the ability to leverage constructive and effective relationships inside and outside the organization.

Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Non Profit Management or related field; Masters Degree a plus.
- A minimum of ten years experience in fundraising at a not-for-profit required.
- Consistent track record of soliciting and securing six-figure gifts (or larger), and stewarding those donors.
- Experience with group facilitation, meeting management and project evaluation desired.
- Experience supervising staff/volunteers/interns desired.
- Advanced in the use of Microsoft Office products
- Outstanding persuasive written and oral communication skills, as well as interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and follow through.
- Ability to sustain workloads over extended periods during special campaigns and other situations.
- Must be flexible.
- Knowledge of donor research techniques desired.
- Culturally sensitive and able to work with a multi-cultural client/customer population; ability to work in a non-judgmental manner and foster positive growth/outcomes; able to work as part of a team and maintain professional boundaries.
