Overview

Timmy Global Health (an Indianapolis based non-profit that expands access to healthcare and empowers the next generation of healthcare professionals to tackle global health challenges) is currently seeking an entrepreneurial, energetic, highly motivated, flexible, intelligent, creative, engaging self-starter to join our Indianapolis-based staff as a full time Programs Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have relevant, responsibility-filled experience working in international development, global health, public health, non-profit management, and/or student empowerment, and a proven skill-set and track record in volunteer coordination, student chapter development, and the coordination of international aid initiatives. The ability to communicate effectively (both written and orally) in both English and Spanish is required to succeed in this position. The Programs Coordinator is the lead staff member for Timmy's domestic and international programs. Both international travel and domestic travel is expected as part of the position.

Job Description

The Programs Coordinator plays a multifaceted role at Timmy Global Health. The position is a mix of program oversight and coordination, program development, long-term planning, student empowerment, partner organization expansion, volunteer recruitment, and office management responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be willing and able to take on a variety of roles, some of which will change and develop over time. The ideal candidate will be very versatile, independent, well rounded, and excited to play an important role at a rapidly growing global health non-profit with a national presence and programs in 5 countries around the world.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage all US-based logistics for Timmy Global Health's short-term medical teams to Guatemala, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and more, in cooperation with Timmy's international Medical Programs Coordinators (based abroad), the Programs and Administrative Assistant, and the Timmy Global Health Indianapolis-based staff. This includes recruitment of medical professionals, management of US student chapters, oversight of international trip logistics, and oversight of quality control.
  2. Manage relationships with medical professional volunteers and Timmy Global Health student leaders at US universities. Equip and prepare them for their international medical service trip experience.
  3. Liaise with our Medical Programs Coordinators, Executive Director, and international partner organizations to coordinate financial and programmatic support of our international partners and on the ground public health, medical, and other initiatives.
  4. Cooperate with Medical Programs Coordinators to manage the organization's international medical programs, and work with other Timmy volunteers and staff to develop, improve, and expand these programs.
  5. Support Timmy's Executive Director and Medical Programs Coordinators in formalizing quality control standards for international medical programs and student participation in international medical service provision.
  6. Plan, manage, and oversee Timmy Global Health's Annual Student Leadership Conference, an annual Indianapolis based conference designed to bring together Timmy Global Health's incredible network of student leaders throughout the United States.
  7. Oversee, engage, and empower college student volunteers through leadership and program development at our chapter campuses. Work to ensure that college chapters fundraise, advocate, and serve on behalf of Timmy Global Health and our international partner organizations.
  8. Work with Timmy Global Health staff and the Timmy Global Health fellow to expand Timmy's college chapter network at higher education institutions in the US.
  9. Guide and oversee the High School Outreach Coordinator to continue the ongoing global education and outreach that local, Indianapolis-based high school chapters of Timmy Global Health perform each year.
  10. Serve as the staff liaison for the Timmy Global Health Programs Committee and Medical Advisory Committee.
  11. Assist the entire Timmy Global Health team in completing miscellaneous office administrative tasks, volunteer coordination, fundraising, event planning, etc.

Minimum Job Requirements/Skills/Abilities

  • Minimum 2 to 3 years experience in project management with a social enterprise, non-profit, or private sector organization; additional experience preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (international affairs, non-profit management, public health, global health, etc., required); Masters Degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Spanish-language proficiency (oral and written) required. Applicants must be able to effectively communicate in both English and Spanish to succeed in this position.
  • Travel and/or work experience (Latin America and/or Africa preferred); experience living abroad (Latin America, Africa preferred)
  • Commitment to global health equity, commitment to using philanthropic efforts and social enterprise to eliminate global health disparities, and interest in empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals and leaders to tackle global health challenges.
  • Competency regarding topics in international development, poverty alleviation, international aid, NGO work, global health and public health
  • Experience / interest in coordinating volunteers and working with students leaders
  • Charisma and comfort leading and working with large groups of people with various backgrounds
  • Excellent writing skills; strong leadership skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work very independently, but also cooperate effectively with teams
  • Flexible personality; ability and interest in assuming very diverse tasks and managing multiple programs / initiatives at once
  • Great sense of humor, strong work ethic, and dedication to the position
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth
