The YMCA of Greater New York is the largest youth-service organization in NYC. The organization has grown to encompass 21 branches and more than 140 sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City in addition to three camp sites and an upstate conference center.
The McBurney YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who will be responsible for providing instructional dance such as ballet, tap and hip-hop to youth and teens. The Dance Instructor will also be responsible for providing the curriculum, including instruction, guidance and motivation to all class participants in a safe and secure atmosphere and following standards and guidelines established by the YMCA.
Responsibilities:
- Dance drills and routines with lesson planning and program goals for participants.
- Meet all required safety guidelines for an efficient program.
- Promote and recruit program participants.
- Maintain required tracking, attendance and related paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, members and staff.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance. Be able to motivate and keep up morale
- Be knowledgeable in all aspects of the job, and keep supervisors/participants/parents informed as to what is happening within the dance class.
- Arrive, start and end class on time.
- Keep room organized and information well stocked and secure all program supplies.
- Promote the YMCA values within the specific program.
- Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; college a plus.
- Minimum of two years of experience teaching dance to youth.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of computer activities/programs. Computer experience a must.
- Current CPR/First Aid certifications.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
