Position Overview

iMentor is seeking an Associate Director of Finance and Grants to work across departments to ensure organizational financial sustainability and management by supporting fundraising and development efforts. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Associate Director of Finance and Grants will be responsible for preparing budgets, budget narratives and other supporting financial documentation for all grant proposals, conducting analysis and submitting financial grant reports, preparing and presenting monthly financial snapshots and variance analysis to each department, and creating, implementing and managing financial policies, procedures and financial compliance throughout the organization. The Associate Director of Finance and Grants will also be responsible for leading monthly conversations with Senior Leadership Team members to better manage finances and use of resources within each department.

The ideal candidate will have experience in nonprofit grant reporting and accounting. S/he will be a savvy communicator who is excellent at managing though influence and simplifying complex data for a lay audience. Candidates must demonstrate superior attention to detail and organizational skills, as well as the ability to meet deadlines while juggling multiple priorities.


Responsibilities

  • Manage all financial elements of the grant reporting process and submit grant reports
  • Prepare budgets and other supporting financial documentation for all grant proposals
  • Conduct analysis of monthly financial results, prepare variance analysis by program/department and meet with Senior Leadership Team members to discuss and make recommendations regarding the use of departmental budgets
  • Create and implement policies and procedures for best fiscal practices organization wide, and ensure financial compliance with all funding requirements
  • Support iMentor organization-wide initiatives, requiring occasional evening and/or weekend events

Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant experience, at least two of those in grant reporting
  • Accounting background and training
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a good listener who can motivate others through influence, manage expectations, have difficult conversations and get buy-in
  • Flexible; able to adapt to changing organizational needs and priorities and juggle multiple projects at once while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to anticipate needs and problems before they arise
  • Aligned in thought and action with iMentor's values (http://www.imentor.org/values)

  • Bachelor's degree required; CPA or MBA preferred
  • Experience with Blackbaud's The Financial Edge preferred
  • Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal background check, conducted by the Division of Human Resources at the New York City Department of Education
