THE ORGANIZATION

The Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding promotes mutual respect with practical programs that bridge religious difference and combat prejudice in areas of armed conflict, schools, workplaces and health care settings. Tanenbaum is a secular and non-sectarian organization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Communications and will work approximately 20 hours a week. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Monitor news daily and develop timely hooks related to Tanenbaum's programs, products and services.
  • Draft email blasts, e-newsletters and newsletter stories.
  • Draft blog posts.
  • Identify and monitor blogs writing on Tanenbaum's program areas.
  • Assist in maintaining website, as well as Facebook and Twitter feeds.
  • Assist in layout and production of newsletter and other promotional materials.
  • Place advertising for Tanenbaum products in relevant e-newsletters/website/print publications, in accordance with existing marketing plans.
  • Draft pitch letters and make follow-up phone calls.
  • Draft collateral materials (copy for flyers, handouts, etc.)
  • Administrative support, including filing, copying, and word processing.

The Communications Assistant position is a valuable opportunity to impact the marketing efforts of an international non-profit organization, develop a professional portfolio and take part in insightful Communications Committee discussions with seasoned PR professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Ability to translate concepts into clear, crisp and concise written materials.
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects under deadline.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Drupal-based CMS systems a plus.
  • Sense of humor.

All work produced for Tanenbaum by the employee is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the intern outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.
