DESCRIPTION:

Quest to Learn is currently seeking highly qualified educators with an understanding of integrating technology as a tool for motivating student achievement, collaborative teamwork, experiential pedagogy, assessment and a commitment to student achievement. In addition, Quest to Learn is looking for teachers with interests in authentic students measures of learning and game-like learning.

Opened in September 2009, Q2L is currently a 6-8 middle school, and added its first Upper School class of 9th graders in September 2012. It will add one grade a year, growing into a 6 – 12 school. Design and innovation are at the heart of Quest to Learn - a school committed to helping students to achieve excellence in the skills and literacies needed for career and college success in the 21st century.

Note: School faculty are encouraged to attend the Quest to Learn summer professional development retreat, student orientation and participate in after school tutoring programs(Compensation according to the UFT contract and advance notice will be provided.) Staff participation in this activity is voluntary, but strongly encouraged, as it is very important to the creation of innovative curriculum and the continued development of a vibrant professional community.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a Regular NYC and/or NYS certification in the subject area you're applying for (5-9 or 7-12) with satisfactory ratings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Roles in small schools are varied and complex. Serious consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate through their resume, cover letter, and references, an understanding of our mission and vision of utilizing technology to engage students in learning, as well as the experience and willingness to be actively involved in these essential aspects of our school culture:

• Commitment and/or willingness to work collaboratively with our anchor partner, Institute of Play, and DOE staff to support the academic and personal development of our students.

• Collaborate in the development of interdisciplinary project and problem-based unit plans.

• Participate and collaborate in an interdisciplinary planning and teaching team

• Experience and/or willingness to lead an advisory group.

• Commitment to developing an individual professional growth plan in collaboration with the Co-Directors to monitor progress and assess teacher effectiveness in enhancing student achievement.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• A strong background in subject area with experience differentiating instruction for a variety of learners.

• Knowledge and familiarity with New York State and Common Core Standards.

  • Experience teaching New York Regents courses, if applicable.

• An ability or willingness to create game-like classroom environments.

• An ability to incorporate hands-on and co-operative learning activities.

• Excellent classroom management skills.

• Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, parents, students, etc.

• Responsibility, flexibility, and strong references.

• A positive attitude with strong collaboration skills.

• Satisfactory rating, exceptional attendance and punctuality.

Note: In addition to an interview, teacher candidates will be asked to participate in a lesson development situation, be observed in their current teaching position, and/or deliver a demonstration lesson in Q2L domain classes.
