In the San Francisco Bay Area, five KIPP middle schools and two KIPP high schools are closing the achievement gap between low-income students and their more advantaged peers. These tuition-free, college-preparatory schools are located in the under-served neighborhoods of Bayview Hunters Point and the Western Addition in San Francisco, East San Jose, San Lorenzo, and West Oakland. Our mission is to ensure our students develop the knowledge, skills, and character needed to succeed in college and the competitive world beyond.

KIPP (The Knowledge is Power Program) began in 1994 in Houston, Texas. Today, there are 125 KIPP schools in 20 states and Washington, D.C. serving more than 41,000 students. KIPP Bay Area Schools currently serves 2,600 students through its seven schools, with a total of 225 employees and annual budget of $25 million.

Position Overview
The Development Operations Associate will be responsible for supporting KIPP Bay Area Schools' development needs, and will play a primary support role for a small, fast-paced development department. The ideal candidate has excellent analytical and data management skills, is a strong communicator and extremely customer-focused, and demonstrates excellent judgment as part of a dynamic fundraising team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about KIPP's mission, motivated to produce a high volume of accurate and detailed work, interested in the field of Fund Development for a leading education organization, and is polished and professional. The Development Operations Associate will report to the Director of Development, but will be an integral part of a development team of four. The position will be located at our office in Oakland.

Responsibilities Include:

Database Management and Reporting

  • Manage gifts processing, including: coding each gift, entering gift information in database, informing relevant KIPP contacts, and facilitating appropriate thank you process.
  • Take ownership for our donor database (Salesforce) and donor reports to enable internal/external communications (including annual report, newsletter/s, email marketing using EMMA, and donor events). This includes a focus on capturing donor information and activity through data entry.
  • Design and systemize strategic reports, to help inform cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activity
  • Assist donors with gift transactions, including corporate match, stock, and credit card donations.
  • Manage goals and metrics, including tracking and reporting on donor campaigns, overall fundraising progress, and other metrics as needed.
  • Work with our Development Managers on database/systems improvements and upgrades, individual donor tracking, and grants management.
  • Work with Finance Department to reconcile Salesforce and Quickbooks.

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship

  • Manage school tours schedule, by working collaboratively with our schools to schedule high quality school tours year-round.
  • Create reports and lists to organize stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation efforts in accordance with Fund Development Plan including, but not exclusive to: appeals, events, and newsletters.
  • Manage large-scale direct solicitations and other mailings (print/email) in an organized fashion and work with various stakeholders to ensure maximum results.
  • Help coordinate volunteer events at schools on an as-needed basis.

Research and Project Support

  • Work closely with Development Managers to create and maintain individual donor and prospect reports for senior staff, development committee, and board members that inform donor relation strategies and track progress to goals.
  • Conduct research on and create profiles for foundation, corporation, and individual donor prospects.
  • Support the Development Team in all event and meeting follow-up, including the logging of relevant information in Salesforce.
  • Manage volunteers and interns as needed to accomplish large scale projects.
  • Provide support as needed for department-wide projects such as donor events, meetings, and other initiatives.
  • Oversee our donations page on the website.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-2 years of related experience and demonstrated interest in the field of Fund Development
  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize among competing goals and multiple work streams
  • Strong interest in and aptitude for database management and data reporting and analysis; experience with Salesforce a plus
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office, with outstanding Excel skills and ability to format data into polished graphs and charts for internal and external audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to provide a high level of customer service to both the internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Self-starter with inclination to initiate process improvements
  • Flexibility and willingness to contribute when needed
  • Strong results orientation with exceptional time management skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task
