Description

The Rainforest Foundation – US (RF-US), an international human rights and environmental organization, is dedicated to protecting the rainforest and promoting the rights of indigenous and traditional peoples who live within it. The organization works closely with local, indigenous organizations in Central and South America and provides financial and technical assistance that helps indigenous populations establish title to the land they live on, sustainably manage their natural resources, and develop the means to promote and protect their rights.

Position Description:

The Writer/Communications Managerwill play a critical role in the day-to-day communications work aimed at raising Rainforest Foundation's brand visibility and in inspiring and engaging existing and new audiences in supporting our mission. For this position we seek an exceptional writer, an avid consumer of mainstream and social media, and a self-starter who is passionate about finding creative ways to help the Rainforest Foundation achieve its goals. The Writer/Communications Manager will report to the Executive Director. Position is on a freelance basis, 8-12 hours a week. The position is based in our home office in NYC.

Responsibilities:

  • Content Development: Collaborate with staff to develop engaging written content that spans Rainforest Foundation's priority focus areas with an emphasis on timeliness, messaging and quality. Create newsworthy, dynamic and engaging content for key audiences.
  • Social Media: Lead content creation for our social media channels. Expand upon online and social media opportunities to increase awareness of Rainforest Foundation. Stay abreast of latest developments and help Rainforest Foundation take advantage of proven best practices. Monitor key audience usage of social media, and use this information to build our social network.
  • Website: create and update web content. Ensure new, consistent and engaging information is posted regularly.
  • Email communications/e-newsletters: Write content for e-communications to our mailing list.

Experience and Education:

The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics:

  • A bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in communications, marketing, or related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Significant, demonstrated understanding of social and new media
  • Passion for human rights and/or environmental conservation
