We have developed a model of grassroots organizing in California that trains youth activists to understand and challenge multiple systems of oppressions, in order to develop LGBTQ and allied leaders with a vision for broad social justice. Grounded in this model, GSA Network is building the GSA movement by providing resources, training, and grassroots organizing support to GSA clubs working to educate schools about LGBT issues and change public policy as well as to emerging GSA Networks in states around the U.S. As leader of the National Association of GSA Networks we bring together youth and adult leaders from state and regional GSA Networks to share best practices for GSA organizing. Position

GSA Network is embarking on an exciting organizational development expansion that includes hiring a Director of National Programs. The Director of National Programs is responsible for the development and management of GSA Network's national programs, including the National Association of GSA Networks, Safe & Healthy LGBT Youth Project, and Racial & Economic Justice Program. This full-time position is responsible for leading a team of staff working to support GSA state networks, community based organizations and local education agencies to support their local GSA clubs and train youth leaders in their region to engage in grassroots organizing, alliance building, policy advocacy, and improving the health and safety of LGBT youth in schools. Key responsibilities include supervision, project management, program design, technical assistance design and program delivery, evaluation, and oversight. The Director of National Programs must have a sharp understanding of program strategy development for national programming, community organizing, coalition building, youth development, curriculum development, program design, and project management. A demonstrated passion for LGBTQ youth leadership and empowerment, an understanding of youth culture, and commitment to social change is required for all positions at GSA Network.

Job Duties:

• Provide direction and day-to-day management of key functions of GSA Network's national programs that include: program compliance, budget oversight, team management, and project management;
• Coaching the performance of national program team staff and building a cohesive high-performing program team. Tasks include hiring, supervising, training, evaluating, performance management, empowering, coordinating, team building, and maintaining a climate that attracts and motivates a diverse staff;
• Providing ongoing input and feedback on program design and implementation to national team staff;
• In coordination with national program staff, develop and implement goals, objectives, procedures and work standards of GSA Network programs.
• Work with the national program staff to develop, implement and oversee national programming events including a national conference and regional activist camps.
• Work with the national program staff to systematize and establish protocols for the delivery and evaluation of high-quality technical assistance;
• Lead strategy development and implementation for national intersectional and cross-sector coalition work.
• Build and manage relationships and collaborations with other organizations, local and state education agencies, government officials, and others to locate and mobilize resources, identify collaborative program development opportunities, and maintain positive community relations.
• Direct and review program planning and evaluation for national programs with program staff, in partnership with Deputy Director.
• Participate in the preparation and administration of multiple program budgets and ensure compliance with the organization's program funding terms and conditions, including preparation of grant reports.
• Oversee intern recruitment and training, as well as volunteer outreach and coordination.

Other Duties:

• Present workshops at regional and national conferences
• Assist with some national training and replication programs, as needed
• Write or solicit articles for printed newsletters, e-newsletters, and blogs
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years experience in supervision and staff management, including the ability to improve the practice of program staff through coaching and feedback;
• At least 5 years experience in project management, program planning, and evaluation in non-profit setting overseeing either a large scope regional or national program;
• Training and curriculum development experience, particularly constituent centered;
• Direct experience working in youth development programs with LGBTQ youth, particularly youth of color;
• Strong familiarity with the challenges faced by LGBTQ youth in public schools;
• Knowledge of and direct experience with community organizing and coalition building;
• Leadership, team-building and strategic planning ability;
• Experience working in politically and socially conservative environments a plus;
• Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills;
• Strong recruitment and onboarding skills and experiences;
• Excellent writing skills required;
• Fundraising and/or grant writing experience a strong plus;
• Excellent verbal communication skills, including public speaking, relationship management skills, meeting facilitation, problem-solving and conflict resolution and ability to communicate program components and needs to partners;
• Solid time management skills and attention to detail;
• Strong skills and work experience demonstrating a commitment to social justice, anti-oppression work, and LGBTQ rights;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor;
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and with people from a variety of different racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, gender, and generational backgrounds;
• Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
