Job description

Reporting to the Director of Community Impact of United Way of Essex and West Hudson, the Outreach Coordinator UWEWH plays a vital role in increasing the capacity of community serving agencies to optimally serve Fairmount residents and to assist residents, community stakeholders, and nonprofit community serving agencies to actively and meaningfully participate in the Newark Fairmount Promise Neighborhood Partnership. This position is a contracted position for 6 months, with the potential for an extended additional 6 months.

Primary responsibilities:

The Newark Fairmount Promise Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator –UWEWH (OC-UWEWH) will assist with strengthening the capacity of all stakeholders to address the needs of residents in the target area. The OC-UWEWH will:

The OC-UWEWH will:

  • Help to identify and catalog agencies that serve the needs of Fairmount families and residents;
  • Assess needs of these agencies that will help to increase their capacity to interface with and serve the community;
  • Identify and/or develop appropriate technical assistance and training to support improved program evaluation and outcomes assessment;
  • Work with the Newark Fairmount Promise Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator –Urban League of Essex County (ULEC) to provide skill building support and training for residents and identify pathways to increase the effectiveness of community collaboration to improve services for residents

Skills & qualifications:

The successful candidate must be skilled in nonprofit leadership and development, program development, and evaluation and assessment. Strong team building, leadership, and communications skills are a must. Familiarity with and passion for Newark and/or the Fairmount Community as well as the Harlem Children's Zone model is highly desired. Familiarity with social services management, delivery, and coordination is highly preferred.

Minimum requirements:

  • Completed Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., social work, sociology, public service, urban planning, political science);
  • 3-5 years of progressively more responsible work in nonprofit management, program evaluation and capacity building
  • Experienced trainer;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Must have a flexible schedule: program may require working evenings and weekends as necessary.
