Job description

Position Objective: Position entails providing outreach and education for iHelp: Sandy Stress Relief, a new initiative that uses internet based computerized cognitive behavioral therapy in order to reduce barriers to accessing mental health treatment. The Outreach and Engagement Counselor will work with community providers and leaders to identify and refer Superstorm Sandy survivors who continue to struggle with post disaster mental health issues.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Create and promote community awareness of CiCBT (comprehensive internet based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) programs
  • Establish and maintain close links with community organizations, businesses, and media relevant to target population.
  • Participate in community events to enhance public awareness of mental illness/substance abuse and treatment within target population.
  • Serve as a liaison to H2H staff regarding relevant community issues and service availability within the target population.
  • Conduct assessments of participants in accordance with program policies and procedures.
  • Utilize resource database to provide information and referral assistance to participants seeking additional mental health and substance abuse services.
  • Manage interactions with participants to ensure appropriate level of support is provided in efficient manner.
  • Accurately and efficiently document outreach and education activities.
  • Meet or exceed established key performance indicator goals.
  • Utilize telephone, email, SMS texting, and/or web chat to interact with outreach targets.

Required Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills; good judgment; good listener, capacity to work with providers to adapt program and outreach strategy to meet their needs.
  • Community organizing experience a plus.
  • Functions well in a fast paced environment
  • Displays cultural competence, is courteous and professional.
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Local Travel Required

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) in public health, social work, psychology or related field, Candidate should have be skilled at providing outreach and have good presentation skills. Familiarity with disaster mental health and cognitive behavior therapy a plus. Ability to speak Spanish, Cantonese/Mandarin or Russian a plus. A minimum of three (3) years practical experience.
