Associate Director, Innovations for Successful Societies
Innovations for Successful Societies (ISS), a joint program of the Woodrow Wilson School and the Bobst Center for Peace & Justice, seeks an associate director. ISS conducts research on institutional reform in post-conflict and low-income countries around the globe. The associate director's responsibilities include training and coaching research specialists, managing daily operations of the program, conducting background research to support site selection, preparing script drafts, editing case study drafts, monitoring the work of related centers, devising and managing work plans for on-time delivery of research output, planning budgets, forging and maintaining collaborations with outside organizations, conducting outreach activities to disseminate ISS research projects, managing ISS's editors and researchers on contract, supporting the director's work by producing reports and memos, and presenting the program's work to small audiences. On occasion, the associate director will participate in research overseas and act as a liaison with partner programs abroad. Travel is usually for one month at a time and may include work in countries that are under State Department travel advisories. The associate director works closely with the center's faculty director to select and manage a team of research specialists, to guide the fundamental work of the program, and to be a liaison with other center directors at the University.
Requirements include strong knowledge of and passionate interest in the research and outcomes which are at the heart of the center's work, excellent organizational and analytical skills, a proficiency in writing and editing complex documents, a desire to work in different cultures and environments around the world, and strong experience in managing projects and teams. Selected candidates will be required to complete a written exercise. Bachelor's degree required, M.A. or Ph.D. preferred.
Proficiency in a language other than English is desirable but not essential. Overseas experience in a developing country is a strong plus. Knowledge of university preferred but not required.
The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check.
