Job description

The Alosa Foundation is seeking an energetic, outgoing, clinical professional in southeastern Pennsylvania to be part of our Independent Drug Information Service (IDIS) team of academic detailers. We provide in-office, medical education outreach to primary care physicians that supports better drug prescribing and the achievement of better patient outcomes.

Who we are:

Alosa is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the dissemination of evidence-based, non-commercial medical information for health care professionals. We partner with an independent group of physicians and researchers on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, and are working with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Aging PACE (Prescription Assistance Contract for the Elderly), to bring the IDIS program to prescribers statewide. We are not associated with any pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare company.

Position Description:

Clinical Educators make one-on-one educational visits to healthcare professionals, providing balanced, non-commercial information about efficacy, safety, and cost effectiveness of medications. Applicants need to have a degree in pharmacy, nursing, or medicine with 3-5 years of experience.

We are seeking an independent contractor, who can work flexible hours, meeting with prescribers in the southeast region of Pennsylvania, while receiving content and programmatic support from the home office in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in two-day academic detailer training sessions, conducted three times a year in the Boston office.
  • Delivering one-on-one educational visits to physicians and health professionals, where a particular therapeutic topic is discussed, and specially designed evidence-based IDIS materials are used to complement the presentation.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive, service-oriented relationships with prescribers and office staff through repeated office visits and contacts.
  • Developing creative outreach strategies to access offices, schedule appointments and follow up on requests for information and service.
  • Contributing to the design and development of new IDIS educational materials.
  • Acting as a liaison between the physician community and the home office.

Qualifications:

  • Degree and experience in pharmacy, nursing, or medicine is required.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of clinical and pharmacological information relevant to a primary care practice.
  • Must be able to assess physicians' needs, clearly judge and communicate relevant medical information, and deliver engaging presentations.
  • Must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Also preferred: experience in medications management and therapeutic decision-making, research, epidemiology, public health, health education, and/or pharmaceutical or medical sales experience.
  • Must be proficient in basic computer skills and comfortable with learning new applications.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a flexible schedule, with the ability to visit physicians during various times throughout the day.
