Summary of Principal Responsibilities

There are two primary responsibilities for this position. The first is to insure the accuracy and integrity of the AFSC's internal financial reporting. The second is to provide Finance Department support to the regions and central office in the form of reporting, research, analysis, and budgeting assistance.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the Financial Analyst include the following:

  1. Serve as Finance's primary point of contact for regions and central office units, providing day-to-day support and responding to inquiries and requests. Serve as the primary communication link from Finance to regions and central office units.
  2. Develop an understanding of regional operations and the impact of financial matters on programs. Assist regional and central office staff in understanding in their understanding of financial information.
  3. Review financial reports for accuracy and integrity. Identify, research, and correct errors and anomalies.
  4. Provide financial research and analysis services for regions and central office units. Maintain standard report formats and generate ad hoc reports on request.
  5. Participate in AFSC Grants Management Team (Program, Development and Finance Departments). Provide grant support, including assisting with proposal budget development, designing and generating financial reports for grantors and audits, and raising grant compliance issues.
  6. Provide budget support for regions and central office units.
  7. Reconcile regional balance sheet accounts. Identify problems and take appropriate action for resolution.
  8. Maintain accurate and up to date currency exchange information.
  9. Special projects as assigned by supervisor, including providing backup coverage for accountants when required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience.

Experience: At least five years of experience in a computer-based business environment with bookkeeping, accounting, grants management and reporting responsibilities.

Other Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and basic skills in word-processing required. Working knowledge using Microsoft Dynamics SL (Solomon) or equivalent experience with multi-user accounting software preferred. Experience with Microsoft Access or other database programs considered a plus.
  2. Experienced with data analysis, report design, and the presentation of quantitative information.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate quantitative information verbally and in writing to audiences with varying levels of financial sophistication.
  4. Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and cooperatively, as a member of a team. Must be organized and able to set priorities among a variety of tasks and to ensure timely completion of responsibilities. Able to work in a high-traffic area with frequent interruptions. Willing to work on various tasks as assigned.
  5. Able to work a flexible schedule as needed. Ability to work overtime in peak periods required.

Compensation: Salary range starts at $54,416 – Exempt – Comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan; term life, accident and salary continuation insurances, defined benefit pension plan, plus fringe benefits; participation in unemployment and worker's compensation and social security.
