CHARITIES FINANCIAL ANALYST

Description

The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General seeks a Financial Analyst to join the Office's Charities Division. The Charities Division is responsible for enforcement of Minnesota laws regulating nonprofit governance, charitable registration, and the administration of charitable assets. A key function of this position is to assist the Office with ensuring that charitable organizations are accountable to Minnesota citizens and donors. This position involves review and analysis of financial documents to verify that charitable assets are properly reported and appropriately administered and to increase accountability and detect fraud. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional with an interest in nonprofit regulation to play a positive role in regulating the nonprofit sector and making a difference in the lives of Minnesota citizens.

Job Duties:

This position involves review and analysis of financial documents, including tax returns, financial audits, financial statements, and expense statements, and assisting attorneys in investigative research.

Qualifications:

  • A master's or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Past nonprofit or charities accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting best practices specific to nonprofits and charitable organizations.
  • Knowledge of the IRS Forms, including 990, 990-PF, 990-EZ, 1023; accounting methods; auditing methods, particularly GAAP; and IRS reporting regulations for nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated writing and analytical skills.
