ELL Teacher

The School- Bridge Boston Charter School is a comprehensive, full-service public school that opened in the fall of 2011 with K1 and K2 students. We now have 144 children enrolled in K1, K2, first, and second grades for the 2013-2014 school year, and will expand by a grade each year until we serve 335 students in grades K1-8. Bridge Boston Charter School's mission is to help our students thrive in a challenging, joyful, inclusive public school community that values close partnerships with families and a focus on the whole child. Our students will develop the skills necessary to excel academically in rigorous high schools, reach their individual potentials, and view themselves as creators of their own futures. Through full-service programming, Bridge Boston Charter School works to remove the health and social obstacles that hinder student learning.

The Position- We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate ELL Teacher in a comprehensive, full-service, new school to help meet the needs of traditionally underserved children in Boston, MA. The ELL Teacher will report to the Principal and will work closely with the Director of Student Services, Special Education Teacher, general education teachers, and intern teachers. Salary will be based on a transparent, set scale that varies with level of experience and education.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree with some focus on early childhood or elementary education
  • MA teachers licensure in ESL (required)
  • Two or more years' experience as an ELL teacher
  • Excellent organizational skills, and superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent personal skills, flexibility, and willingness to be a team player
  • Facility in a second language beyond English

Duties will include

  • Working closely with the Director of Student Services, who will serve as ELL administrator, to ensure that the school is in compliance with all ELL requirements and that each child is receiving all necessary supports and instruction
  • Providing direct service when necessary and appropriate, in the form of ELD instruction
  • Familiarity with the state-adopted WIDA system
  • Administering assessment and screening tools for entry into ELL, such as pre-LAS and W-APT
  • Gathering data for any student being considered for exiting ELL
  • Collaborating with the Director of Student Services to ensure appropriate ordering of materials for ACCESS state assessment, including for students with disabilities
  • Administering ACCESS state assessment
  • Working within classrooms, collaborating with teachers to support SEI practices
  • Collaborating with teachers to set reasonable goals for students based on ACCESS scores
  • Collaborating with general education teachers to identify students who are not making sufficient progress and to determine appropriate interventions
