Job Description NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 430 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Livingston, Montana and Beijing.Position Summary:

The Online Campaigns and Engagement Associate in D.C. will work with policy experts from across the institution and help ensure public engagement/advocacy communications outreach and campaigns are effective and nimble. This will include understanding overall advocacy communications strategy, providing best practices for online engagement strategies, undertaking project management, and developing content for online advocacy efforts. This person will play an important part in our online engagements around federal legislation, regulations and related campaigns.

This role will not only edit others' work, but also direct other writers and contractors. This role reports to the Manager of Online Engagement. This position will be located in the DC office.

Required Skills * Create sophisticated online communications strategies that utilize web, email and social media channels to achieve NRDC's online advocacy goals
* Understand and utilize campaign metrics to evolve strategies and maximize impact of NRDC's online advocacy work and goals
* Identify advocacy and content opportunities
* Communicate key information and identify potential online advocacy opportunities from evolving legislative issues to the rest of the Online Communications Team.
* Help develop and execute online communications campaigns and associated plans (including writing email alerts, social media, and web content on diverse topics)
* Provide project management to key online campaigns and content.
* Coordinate with NRDC staff and partners
* Monitor and assess content success
* Educate other NRDC staff about messaging and content best practices for online advocacy.Required Experience

This position requires an individual with several years experience working on online campaigns and/or marketing. Relevant skills would include:

  • Strong background in communications strategy and advocacy outreach
  • Strong analytical skills and a high degree of comfort with budgets and metrics/analytics
  • An entrepreneurial, proactive attitude with a focus on getting results
  • Comfort working in a campaign environment, and undertake nimble content development
  • Strong understanding of current best practices in online communications and able to test new concepts
  • Able to think strategically about campaigns and associated tactics
  • Strong writing skills and able to quickly edit documents
  • Able to develop plans with clear goals, roles, timeline, metrics, and budget estimates
  • Candidates should be able to point to their roles in different campaigns and online initiatives.
