At United Cerebral Palsy, a large non-profit agency that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities, our mission is to create opportunities for people with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
We are seeking a Teacher Assistant for our Manhattan school. The qualified Assistant will possess a Teachers Assistant License to be able to support the Teacher and be responsbile for assisting him/her in the conduct of classes and activities and provide personal care to the children. Some Responsibilites are:
o Provides physical and programmatic aid to children where assigned
o Aids in porgram plans and preparations
o Assists with supervision of children
o Ensures that services are rendered to children with utmost regard for their personal dignity, privacy and confidentiality
o Assists Teacher in maintaining a clean and organized classroom as well as assisted with clerical duties
o Attends required staff meetings
o Assists with special needs of children; i.e. toileting and feeding, outer clothings and with transporting children between buses and building (as requested)
o Participates in activities outside of activity room when necessary, i.e., trips, pool, gym etc.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Six months of related experience is preferred
Teacher Assistant Certificiaton (Level I, II & III)
Attended workshops on Child Abuse Identification and School Violence Intervention & Prevention
Excellent communication skills
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, children and their parents
Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures
